Sudeti[1] sunt iugum montium in Polonia meridiana et Bohemia septentrionali patens. Primum a Claudio Ptolemaeo descripti sunt, qui, nomine Σούδητα ὄρη Soudēta orē usus, haec verba scripsit: "Sudeti montes; sub quibus est Cabrita silva, inter quos in Sarmaticos montis est saltus Hercynius."[2]

Sudetorum nominis origo dubia est. Nomen ipsum a Celtis deductum fuisse dicitur, et 'silva aprorum' valere potest.[3]

Sudeti montes in partes tres dividuntur:

  • Sudeti Occidentales, quorum mons altissimus, Asciburgius Montium Giganteorum (cacumen 1603 metrorum supra maris aequor), in duobus civitatibus pariter positus, summus mons Bohemiae est. Parva eorum pars atque in Germania sita est.
  • Sudeti Medii
  • Sudeti Orientales
