Talk:Spam blacklist
- Proposed additions
- Please provide evidence of spamming on several wikis. Spam that only affects a single project should go to that project's local blacklist. Exceptions include malicious domains and URL redirector/shortener services. Please follow this format. Please check back after submitting your report, there could be questions regarding your request.
- Proposed removals
- Please check our list of requests which repeatedly get declined. Typically, we do not remove domains from the spam blacklist in response to site-owners' requests. Instead, we de-blacklist sites when trusted, high-volume editors request the use of blacklisted links because of their value in support of our projects. Please consider whether requesting whitelisting on a specific wiki for a specific use is more appropriate - that is very often the case.
- Other discussion
- Troubleshooting and problems - If there is an error in the blacklist (i.e. a regex error) which is causing problems, please raise the issue here.
- Discussion - Meta-discussion concerning the operation of the blacklist and related pages, and communication among the spam blacklist team.
- #wikimedia-external-linksconnect - Real-time IRC chat for co-ordination of activities related to maintenance of the blacklist.
- Whitelists
There is no global whitelist, so if you are seeking a whitelisting of a url at a wiki then please address such matters via use of the respectiveMediawiki talk:Spam-whitelist
page at that wiki, and you should consider the use of the template {{edit protected}} or its local equivalent to get attention to your edit.
Please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment. This leaves a signature and timestamp so conversations are easier to follow.
Completed requests are marked as {{added}}
/{{removed}}
or {{declined}}
, and are generally archived quickly. Additions and removals are logged · current log 2025/01.

Proposed additions
[edit]This section is for proposing that a website be blacklisted; add new entries at the bottom of the section, using the basic URL so that there is no link (example.com, not http://www.example.com). Provide links demonstrating widespread spamming by multiple users on multiple wikis. Completed requests will be marked as {{added}} or {{declined}} and archived. |

Cross-wiki spam by Gecko2634 and socks. nl:Special:Diff/68440437, en:Special:Diff/1266528513 etc. Request here suggested by CU on enwiki. en:Special:Diff/1266551840. --TheSandDoctor Talk 05:12, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- @TheSandDoctor: I can’t really blacklist the entire academic domain for Indonesia without some form of broad global consensus. Perhaps you meant 'unair.ac.id' instead? XXBlackburnXx (talk) 08:59, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- @XXBlackburnXx: Whoops. Thank you. Corrected in template-TheSandDoctor Talk 16:55, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm gonna decline globally blacklisting this for now and will instead create a global abuse filter to manage its additions. I'm not comfortable to blacklist one of the top 5 universities in Indonesia, and the abuse filter will also make it easier to monitor for socks.That said, blacklisting it on English Wikipedia seems more feasible and manageable, so they can do just that. Cross-wiki spam by sock accounts. See this spamcheck link for diffs - MrOllie (talk) 00:37, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined while the additions are definitely wrong, this is a known (globally banned) LTA, and they will choose another link when this one gets blacklisted. The best approach is to monitor the link, for example, using an abuse filter, and apply W:WP:RBI. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 12:58, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
Proposed removals
[edit]This section is for proposing that a website be unlisted; please add new entries at the bottom of the section. Use a suitable 3rd level heading and display the domain name as per this example {{LinkSummary|targetdomain.com}} . Please do not add the protocol part of domain name, eg. http
Remember to provide the specific domain blacklisted, links to the articles they are used in or useful to, and arguments in favour of unlisting. Completed requests will be marked as See also recurring requests for repeatedly proposed (and refused) removals. Notes:

azurefd.net
[edit]azurefd.net
The International Sports Federation ISU (https://isu.org) has been posting all documents on azurefd.net (which is on the spam blacklist), since updating its website. Links to the documents of this federation are often placed in Wikipedia articles as sources. As a consequence, it is not possible to publish an edit with such a link now. Please remove azurefd.net from the spam blacklist. Beonus (talk) 23:49, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- See also Talk:Spam_blacklist/Archives/2023-08#*.azurefd.net. Note, these are appear to be on one subdomain, but subdomain whitelisting is only available on local projects. — xaosflux Talk 02:49, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Also, deactivated the immediate edit request - there is a discussion section above for removal requests - please migrate this there. — xaosflux Talk 02:50, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, moved the request. Beonus (talk) 15:49, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux, @Johannnes89: concerning "but subdomain whitelisting is only available on local projects", actually subdomain whitelisting is possible at meta via negative zero-width look behind assertions:
(?<!whitelisted\.)\bexample\.org
- And in my opinion it makes more sense to whitelist domains globally that should be able to be used globally.
- So should this subdomain be whitelisted globally?
- -- seth (talk) 20:35, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- That isn't a whitelist entry, that is still a blacklist entry. Global subdomain whitelisting isn't available because global whitelisting doesn't exist. As to if that entry should be used or not, not sure. — xaosflux Talk 21:31, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Of course, it's still an entry in the blacklist, but it whitelists the subdomain whitelisted.example.org, while example.org still being blacklisted. So technically this is whitelisting (i.e. making an exempt of a blacklist entry). And it's nothing special, we did this in the past several times already.
- So, it's not a technical issue. The question is, whether isu-d8g8b4b7ece7aphs.a03.azurefd.net should be blocked. And upto now i don't see a reason for that. So if nobody objects, I would "whitelist" the subdomain globally.

Declined – resolved locally per [1] --Johannnes89 (talk) 18:46, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Johannnes89: Is it ok for you, if i decide differently? As far as I see, your decision was made on incomplete (technical) information.
- -- seth (talk) 00:03, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- No objection from me, I just marked the request as resolved because the user removed it, saying it was resolved locally. Johannnes89 (talk) 10:24, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, then Done. :-)
- I changed the entry to
(?<!isu-d8g8b4b7ece7aphs\.a03\.)\bazurefd\.net\b
which make more sense than whitelisting the subdomain at several local places. - -- seth (talk) 13:27, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
