@McZusatz: Who cares whether a thumbnail issue is specifically about PNG, and why care?
The pipe for thumbnailing is a bit different for each file type, so a separate tracking ticket may be helpful.

[...] historically PNG thumbnailing has been somewhat neglected [...]
Also, there seem to be quite some bugs open for PNG thumbnailing, so a separate tracking ticket may reduce the time how bugs are related/duplicates, etc.

Hmm, for who specifically will it be helpful (instead of only may)?
Do you plan to hack on and fix PNG thumbnailer issues? :)

I'm not sure if looking at the list of blockers in T43371 and finding those related to PNG takes more time than the constant need to triage new incoming tickets and mark them as blockers here but if you plan to do the latter that's welcome of course!
Not sure what the devs prefer, but I can put them back in the general tracking bug anytime, if that's preferred?
That's something to first find out then, I'd say. :) I simply don't see why people should spend categorizing tasks if it's very unclear if the specific categorizing will help anybody with getting their work done...
FWIW, issues about pngs are separate enough from general issues, that categorizing them independently, makes about as much sense as your average bug categorization scheme (imo).
That said, the pile of thumbnailer related bugs isn't really large enough that sorting through it is a hinderence, so organizing them by type isn't really solving a critical problem either.
Thus as a developer, I don't really care that much either way (Of course other developers working in this area might have different opinions. Honestly, post-reorg, I don't even know if anyone is even working in this area). Organizing bugs this way might be mildly useful some day. It certainly doesn't bother me. Is it useful to users reporting bugs (To better find dupes, etc)? If so, that sounds like it would be a fine justification.
This uses YCCK color space (K is from CMYK, YCC --> to CMY). Please fix the thumbnail.

@VZpolodov: Hi, please see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug and file a dedicated ticket about dedicated issues. Thanks!
