Support
Oppone
- Oppose. This user has four total edits on this wiki, and none of them are within the last two years. I'm sorry, but I just can't support this. I'm potentially training two new admins at the very least. That's my limit. –MJL ‐Tauk‐☖ 07:00, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
Neutral
- Syne MJL's comment, Drchriswilliams has been active, baith durin the editathon an efter, mainly cleanup stuff. A wid hae liked tae hae seen a bit mair community interaction (they're in the 'E Scots Leed Discord server but nae said onything) which is mah main sticklin pynt wi them CiphriusKane (tauk) 14:30, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[replie]
Comments
- It is very disappointing to me that MJL is apparently unwilling to rely on the Wikimedians in Residence for help with admin training. @MJL: I feel strongly that most if not all of the admins should be fluent. I appreciate your work, but you neither asked for, wanted, or were qualified to handle this mess. James Salsman (tauk) 08:21, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- @James Salsman: You're suggesting promoting three Wikipedians in Residence when I know of only one who may even have a need for the role. You also are nominating these users on their personal accounts(!) which makes absolutely zero sense to me. –MJL ‐Tauk‐☖ 08:27, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- I am sure you don't mean to suggest that we should have admins who lose their role when their employment relationship changes? James Salsman (tauk) 08:31, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- If we are going to nominate users due in large part to their employment, then yes that is what follows when they lose their current position. –MJL ‐Tauk‐☖ 19:19, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- @MJL: I urge you to discuss this with those who have more admin experience. I am certain you are mistaken. Admin permissions are not associated with WMF and chapter work accounts because of the safe harbor provisions of copyright law, for one thing. James Salsman (tauk) 20:27, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- @James Salsman: (1) WP:WiR don't work for the WMF. (2) I don't believe Drchriswilliams is even a Wikipedian-in-Residence. –MJL ‐Tauk‐☖ 20:47, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- @MJL: The WMF, chapters such as Sara's WMUK, and WiR employers are all different legal entities. Can you point to a single instance where any employee of the three kinds obtained admin rights for their work account without first having obtained them for their volunteer account? James Salsman (tauk) 21:20, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]
- @James Salsman: No, most projects haven't supported people for admin just because they are a Wikipedian-In-Residence.
Either way, this is a moot point because we already have an admin who is a professional Wikipedian: Fox. –MJL ‐Tauk‐☖ 21:36, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]- @MJL: I am not trying to nominate professional Wikipedians, I am trying to nominate fluent Scots speakers who have medical and editing experience. This discussion is not on topic, can we please take it back to Meta? James Salsman (tauk) 21:40, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[replie]

Quaistens for the candidate
A feow generic quaistens tae gie guidance tae the voters:
- 1. Whit sysop chores, if ony, wad ye foresee yersel holpin wi? (Please read the page aboot administrators an the administrators' readin leet.)
- A. Mebbes tae muiv hings.
The predicament affecting the Scot Wiki is not a normal situation. Most of my past efforts have been on en wiki, but I'm also familiar with wiki data and wiki source. I have been active across sev erl wikis for more than six years, I have created articles, done work on categories, checking and updating sources. Some of my work on en wiki has been on the Scots language and the culture in Scotland. I have also been involved in discussions at nominations for deletion. I have been accredited by Wikimedia UK as trainer, but I'm not employed by Wikimedia UK.
I've previously looked at pages on the Scots wikipedia many times over previous years, but until now only made a very few edits- there has been an overwhelming sense of "where to start"- but with some energy and purpose we could at least get a core of important topics to a good standard.
I've grown up in Scotland, with plenty immersion in the Scots language. I don’t need to be an admin to get on and help improve the wiki, but I expect there will be a need for moving and renaming pages and other oversight. I’m willing to offer my experience (and to learn further).
- 2. Amang yer ain airticles or contreibutions tae Wikipaedia, are there ony that ye'r rael prood o, an whit wey?
- A. Ah didnae mak a muckle load o contreibutions tae yon wiki, but ah spent a fair wee whilie makin thaim on EN wikipedia.
On En Wikipedia: I'm most proud of articles such as Lisbeth Hockey, Cora Bissett and Donna Kennedy.
- 3. Haev ye bin in ony fechts ower editin in the past or div ye feel that ither uisers hae caused ye pain? Whit haev ye duin aboot it and whit will ye dae aboot it in the future?
- A. I dinnae hae ma sorras tae seek.
Some of my work on the En Wiki has involved reverting unconstructive or problematic edits, or reverting the introduction of spam links. I have also identified many copyright violations and helped removed problematic material that is associated with this.
Discussion on talk pages are a good way to try and understand the perspective of others- far better than trying to get a message across using edit summaries.
- The above discussion is preserved as a refelctor of the debate. Please dinnae chynge it. Nae more edits suid be made to this page.
