Álvaro Mejía (athlete)

Álvaro Mejía Florez (15 May 1940 – 12 January 2021) was a Colombian long-distance runner. He competed in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games 5,000 meter final. He was born in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia.

Mejía competed in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in the 10,000 meters and in the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Mejía also won the 1971 Boston Marathon. He won a bronze medal at the 1971 Pan American Games in the 10,000 metres. Mejía won the Saint Silvester Road Race in 1966.

Mejía died on 12 January 2021 in Bogotá, Colombia at the age of 80.[1]
