Ami Radunskaya

Ami Elizabeth Radunskaya is an American mathematician and musician.[1][2] After high school and before college she played cello for the Oakland Symphony in California for several years.[3] Radunskaya is currently a professor of mathematics at Pomona College.[1][2][3] She has been on faculty at Pomona College for over twenty years.[1] She is the president of the Association for Women in Mathematics.[4][5]
Education
[change | change source]Dr. Radunskaya received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Berkley.[1][2][3] She also has a Ph.D. from Stanford University.[1][2][3]
Math
[change | change source]Dr. Radunskaya discovered her love of math at the age of four.[3] At the start of her career journey, she tried many different things like chemistry and computer science, but she found her way back to her initial love, math.[3] Now, she is a professor of mathematics at Pomona College.[1] She is also the president of the Association for Women in Mathematics.[4][5]
Music
[change | change source]Dr. Radunskaya started playing the cello at the age of nine where she started a trio with her two other siblings.[3] After finishing high school at the age of sixteen, she spent ten years studying cello and composition.[1] She then joined the Oakland Symphony.[3] At the age of 23, she decided to quit, and instead explore composition and experimental music.[4]
Accomplishments
[change | change source]Dr. Radunskaya received the 2016 mentor award.[2] She has helped over eighty-two of her students to get their Ph.D.’s in mathematics.[2] She was also a subject in the film: The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things.[6]
