Lonnie Rashid Lynn (born March 13, 1972), better known by his stage name Common, is an American rapper and actor. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. His music has been compared to the likes of Kanye West.[source?]

He graduated from Luther High School South. Later, he graduated from Florida A&M University.

He released his first album Can I Borrow a Dollar? using the stage name Common Sense. He started becoming more popular when he was forced to change his stage name. A reggae band from Orange County, California with the same name sued him.

He won an Oscar for co-writing the song "Glory" for the 2014 movie Selma. In 2018, Common was nominated for an Oscar. It was for the song Stand Up for Something from the 2017 movie Marshall.

Common appeared in many movies. These include Smokin' Aces, American Gangster, The Kitchen, Wanted, Terminator Salvation and Just Wright.
