Gilbert Islands

The Gilbert Islands (Gilbertese: Tungaru;[1] in the past Kingsmill or King's-Mill Islands) are a group of sixteen islands in the Pacific Ocean. It is the main group of islands in Kiribati.

They were named after British Captain Thomas Gilbert. He sailed there in 1788.[2]
