William Timothy "Bill" Mantlo (born November 9, 1951) is an American comic-book writer, best known for his work on two licensed toy properties (Micronauts and ROM: Spaceknight), and as co-creator of Rocket Raccoon. Mantlo plotted out the stories of the first and second issues of the Marvel G1 comic.
Having written for nearly every on-going Marvel title in the 1970s, by the mid-1980s Mantlo had entered law school and ceased working in the comics field to become a public defender. Struck by a car while rollerblading in 1992, Mantlo suffered severe head trauma and spent over a year in a coma. He has since been institutionalized and is not expected to fully recover.
