Daniel's imaginary protector looks an awful lot like his mom. Both!

The fairy-tale princess is a figment of Daniel Witwicky's imagination created when the Quintessons were messing with the boy's head. Despite some suspicious moments, the princess is a gentle soul and the only creature of good in a landscape filled with evil, murderous lifeforms. She seems to be some sort of manifestation of Daniel's subdued consciousness, actively helping to get him to awake and being the most resilient link between Daniel and his dream world.

Inside the dream world-made-real, the princess was abducted by a dragon and chained up in its castle by the guards. Apparently not satisfied with only one abductee, the dragon also abducted Springer and Razorclaw, whom he locked up with the princess. Springer untied her and she offered him a deal. If he would bring her back to her home, the princess's father would reward him with a large sum of gold. Springer answered he'd help her for free, but the prospect of gold was the key to getting Razorclaw aboard the joint escape attempt. The princess knew there was only one way to get rid of the dragon, and that was with a magic lance hidden somewhere in its castle. This gave Springer an idea, which got them out and in the possession of the magic lance.

However, the dragon still had to be dealt with and Razorclaw refused to help Springer defeat it until the princess convinced him that helping Springer, if anything, would assure his freedom. Once the dragon was killed, Springer expressed concern that they wouldn't be able to find the other Transformers, to which the princess responded she'd reunite them as that was the least she could do. On Springer's question how she was going to do that, the princess pointed at a yellow brick road.

When the trio rejoined the other Transformers, the princess revealed that, due to the Quintessons' meddlings, Daniel could no longer hear anything the Autobots said and could only communicate through her. She pointed out that the next phase of Daniel's dream would be the most dangerous and that Daniel's life depended on their success. During the final battle against a variety of threats, the princess called out to Daniel to wake up and save himself while guiding the Transformers to the place he was being held.

She got what she wanted. When Daniel awoke and unhooked himself from the Quintesson machine, his dream ended and the princess disappeared. Springer wondered aloud where she had gone, to which Rodimus Prime replied that she never existed in the first place. Nightmare Planet
