Gérard Hernandez

Gérard Hernandez (born Julio Gerardo Hernández on January 20, 1933) is a French actor and director, of Spanish origin.
He has had a rich career in boulevard theater and dubbing. He dubbed numerous cartoon characters, including Gonzo, Statler and Waldorf in The Muppet Show, Professor Moriarty in most episodes of the animated series Sherlock Holmes from Hayao Miyazaki and Jack Dalton in the Lucky Luke animated series and films.
He is the original French voice of Papa Smurf and Grouchy Smurf in the 1981 animated The Smurfs series. He reprised his role as Papa Smurf in the 2011 and 2013 The Smurfs films and in the 2017 Smurfs: The Lost Village animated film.
He has also dubbed many actors of very different nationalities (European, Hispanic, Oriental ...) in various films and TV series.
Nowadays, he is still active in dubbing and TV series, starring in the French TV show Scènes de ménages.

Notes
- The European French dub of the original cartoon being very casual about maintaining voice continuity for the characters is well illustrated by the fact that Gérard Hernandez surely was in the studio that day to probably work on another series, and came to dub a few characters in The Transformers just for one episode, like Roger Carel and Patrick Préjean did.
