Grimlock (Energon)
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Grimlock" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Grimlock (disambiguation). |
- Grimlock is an Autobot from the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
Grimlock isn't much for subtlety. Well, he does like to sneak up on the panicked Decepticons that are desperately fleeing the attacks of his aerial partner Swoop, but soon as they get in range of tooth and claw, he becomes a storm of violence, ripping into them mercilessly. Even though he is equipped with some heavy built-in firepower, he'd much rather take the up-close and personal approach to battle, especially bringing out the "big guns" by combining with Swoop to form the monstrous Mega-Dinobot.

Toys
Energon
- Grimlock & Swoop (Mega Class, 2005)
- Known designers: Marcelo Matere (packaging artist)
- Released in the fourth wave of Energon "Mega-Class" toys (roughly analogous to modern Voyagers), Grimlock transforms into a robotic Tyrannosaurus rex. He can also combine with his pack-in partner Swoop, forming the upper body of the combined super robot Mega-Dinobot.
- He lacks any other weapons and gimmickry, an oddity for Transformers toys of the time. Even odder, his fist-holes are not 5 mm post-compatible, so you can't even arm him with extra Energon weapons.
- Hasbro stock imagery of the toy shows him with more extensive paint operations than the final toy: a silver-painted faceplate, yellow-painted robo-toes, and an extra red stripe on his dino-ribcage. All of these features are unpainted on the final product.
- This set was originally intended to be released in the Universe line as the original Generation 1 incarnations. However, a variety of factors shuffled the set into Energon and new-character-dom. This set was not "mech-designed" or engineered by Takara employees, a rarity for normal-series Transformers toys.
- This mold was (much) later redecoed into Age of Extinction Generation 1 Grimlock.
Notes
- Grimlock's online bio at the then-Energon-themed Hasbro Transformers website described him as being "armed to the nines", despite a total absence of weapons and the inability even to use the Energon weapons available in the line due to his fist holes not being compatible with 5 mm posts.
