The Initiator is an ancient relic of some great importance. Alpha Quintesson and Councillor Avalon intend to employ it as a key element in their undisclosed plans for Cybertron, Earth and Unicron. The human Kicker may have a connection to the object.

Avalon kept the Initiator in his care as he and Alpha Quintesson schemed to prepare for its usage. Multiplicity, Pt. 2

Thousands of years ago, the Initiator had been part of a Quintesson plan along with the Conduit to open a portal in space-time that would allow a Quintesson fleet to conquer Cybertron. When Quintessa was devoured by Unicron, Alpha Quintesson tried to escape the planet with the devices, but the Conduit was lost. As his ship was sucked into Unicron, Alpha Quintesson had the Initiator teleported away to his agent on Cybertron, Avalon. Doomsday Redux! Eventually, Alpha Quintesson discovered a suitable replacement for the Conduit; the human Kicker Jones, and his ability to manipulate energon.

Following the evident death of Over-Run at the hands of Starscream, Avalon felt confident enough to launch the Initiator. However, he was discovered and killed by Wheeljack before he could so. Armageddon Part 3 Despite this setback, Alpha Quintesson activated the Initiator anyway, summoning the Quintesson fleet. Armageddon Part 4
