Cody is turned into a grown-up during an experiment, which compromises his spot on the rescue team.

Synopsis

Chase and Chief Burns stand ready as a ship pulls in to the docks, as there's a shipment on it bound for Doc Greene's lab. The Chief is suffering from the flu and is sneezing everywhere. Miscreant troublemakers Evan and Myles are ready to try and steal the new equipment, and use a sonic device to knock Mr. Bunty into the water. While Chief dives in after their victim, they swipe some equipment and speed off in their car. The Chief and Chase pursue, but the pair are sent spinning off a cliff when the two criminals drop oil on the road. Chase is able to cling to the side of the cliff and climb back up. With Chief increasingly sick, they return to the firehouse so he can rest.

With Chief Burns in bed, Kade announces he's the new leader. The Rescue Bots discuss what's wrong with the Chief, and Chase tries to interest anyone in the mucus sample he's acquired. The discussion is interrupted by the news there's a ruptured gas line. Cody attempts to go along, only to get told by Kade he's too small. Heatwave is unimpressed by Kade's insistence on beating Cody at arm wrestling before they head out. When they reach the site of the mess, Kade tries to order everyone around, though they pretty much already know what they need to do.

Cody tries to work out why he's grown a mustache but not a beard.

Cody heads up to Doc Greene's lab, where the Doc and Frankie are assembling the parts that weren't stolen into a stasis machine. They explain that it will freeze objects in time, but there's as a part missing, it won't work. Cody plays with the remote, accidentally triggering the device, which abruptly ages him to an adult. Doc Greene realizes that it's a result of the machine being incomplete and they may need the missing part back to reverse the aging, though he might be able to improvise something. Cody's just excited that he's finally an adult.

Back at the fire station, the Rescue Bots and Cody's siblings are surprised at Cody's new state. They're soon called out to another emergency, and Cody insists he's now old enough to come along, with Kade forced to concede. They find a rocket tangled in power lines, the result of an experiment by a Mr. Cullen. With the rocket still full of fuel, Cody switches the power off so Blades can lift it free safely. Unimpressed with Cody's feat, Kade assigns him to crowd control, though this results in Hayley becoming interested in this attractive new member of the Burns family. Unfortunately the attempt to retrieve the rocket goes wrong when it falls, and everyone takes cover from the explosion. Hayley asks "Cole", as he's calling himself, to lunch. An argument between Cody and Kade ensues, and Cody goes to hang out with Frankie.

Doc Greene is having no luck recalibrating the stasis machine, so Cody and Frankie try to play basketball, but the height disparity makes the match one-sided, so Frankie goes back inside to help her dad. Cody finally comes to the realization he needs to be a kid again. Meanwhile Myles and Evan have their eyes on the rest of the stasis machine and are aiming to break into the lab. Chase attempts to stop them, but they blast him with their sonic ray. Cody smashes the weapon out of their hands with a basketball, and when they're confronted by the Greenes and Trex, they flee.

Cody and Chase are pursue the pair, but are held up by first a crosswalk and then some inconveniently placed crates. Heatwave and Kade manage to pull alongside the two thieves, only to be blasted by their piece of the stasis ray, resulting in Kade being deaged into a child. While everyone is amused at the effect, after Kade has a quick change of clothing, they chase the two criminals around the dock. Kade tries to drop a box on them, only to be too small to pull the release lever, but it provides a distraction so the Rescue Bots can surround them. Evan and Myles ditch the stasis machine piece, which Boulder saves from a watery grave, and attempt to hide in a box. Unfortunately for them, Chase simply slaps a lid on the box so Blades can lift it up and carry them to prison.

Doc Greene announces with the missing piece, he should have the machine working properly within the hour. Chief Burns walks into the station saying that he's feeling much better, only to see adult Cody and kid Kade arm wrestling, at which point he announces he's going back to bed.

• Mr. Bunty is named for the first time. He previously had a reasonably-sized "guest" role in "Flobsters on Parade".
• Evan and Myles were previously arrested in "The Haunting of Griffin Rock".
• Heatwave uses the water cannon energize tool that comes with his toy to put out a fire.
• Blades refers to Lad Pioneers.
• Mr. Cullen's rocket was seen visible next to a house (presumably his) during season 1, and prominently appears on the show's title sequence.
• Trex was turned into a guard dog in "Return of the Dino Bot".

Real-world references

• Doc Greene refers to Frankie as his "young Tesla."
• It's a fair bet Mr. Cullen's name is a reference to Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen.
• Chase asks Evan and Myles if they're "familiar with the human known as Miranda." Given Chase's voice actor D.C. Douglas has a prominent role in the Mass Effect games which also feature a human named Miranda, it's not impossible this is a double-reference.

Animation and technical errors

• The Settlers' Bell is absent from the lighthouse during the opening shot!
• Whereas Trex's eyes were blue in his previous appearance in "Return of the Dino Bot" and only turned red when he was possessed by Doctor Morocco's virus, from this story on they're permanently red.

Trivia

• Kade wants a two-mile perimeter clear of pedestrians? How big is Griffin Rock anyway?
• Not only does the stasis machine make Cody older, it also gives him a perfectly-formed mustache but no beard.
