The tiny alien creatures known as skitters are silicophagous detritivores from the A'ovan homeworld, able to survive and thrive on metallic worlds such as Cybertron by dint of their unique diet.

The skitters first arrived on Cybertron along with the A'ovan, stowing away aboard their refugee ships; the skitters soon took to life on the metallic planet and turned invasive, but the Cybertronians allowed them to stay on account of their harmless natures.   • Skitters come in a variety of colors: Transformers issue #2 shows a yellow specimen with a red shell, the skitters at Swindle's in #20 are a uniform grey, and green skitters with red shells feature in both #10 and #26. Escape #1 shows a purple skitter with a green shell and a red head, and a flashback to the A'ovan homeworld in the same issue shows another one in all-yellow.
