Synopsis

In the wake of the destruction of Cybertron in the year 2011, an exploration team made up of Sky Lynx, Wheeljack, Hound, Ratchet, and Trailbreaker arrive on the wreckage of the planet in search of survivors. They stumble upon Vector Sigma, which remains functioning even though its outer "shell" has been shattered, and the supercomputer grants them the ability to truly save their homeworld by reformatting them into new bodies with new powers. Over the course of ten years, their new Disaster Relief Team is thus able to rebuild Cybertron.

In 2021, Grand Galvatron attacks the repaired planet, but finds it under the Disaster Relief Team's protection when the upgraded Trailbreaker lops his limb components off using his new "ultra force barrier". As the limbs transform to fight on their own, Wheeljack joins the fight with his Immobilizer V2, which is able to freeze even the semi-corporeal Starscream in place. Breakdown stops fighting and breaks down in tears on seeing Knock Out, not realizing his old partner is merely a hologram projected by Hound, who has scanned his memories. Meanwhile in Vector Sigma's chamber, Ratchet attempts resurrect Optimus Prime with help from Vector Sigma itself, who is grateful for Prime sacrificing his life for its sake. They're interrupted by Roller, who blasts Ratchet aside and prepares to destroy Prime's body in revenge for abandoning him in another world, but he's in turn stopped by the arrival of Sky Lynx. The rest of Galvatron's soldiers reach the chamber and re-combine, only to find that the five Autobots sworn to defend Cybertron and Optimus Prime also possess this ability, merging into Sky Reign.

Sky Reign attacks Grand Galvatron with the full force of his components' abilities, defending himself with Trailbreaker's force field and blasting the Decepticon with Wheeljack's many inventions before using Hound's holograms to confuse him with holographic clones. Unfortunately, this trick doesn't work on Galvatron, who identifies the true Sky Reign and pierces his chest with a mighty blast. As he prepares to finish his opponent off, however, the Autobot combiner gets back up, fully healed by Ratchet's new repair unit, and bites into Grand Galvatron with Sky Lynx's contribution—the strength of a beast. Galvatron cries out for help as elsewhere, a female Transformer claiming to be the Emperor of Destruction's wife believes it's time for her and four others to make their move...

Notes

Continuity notes

  • The first page takes place during "Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2".
  • Ratchet being alive is kind of necessary to accompany the Unite Warriors Lynxmaster toy, but he died in 2005 during The Movie, and how he came back to life by 2011 has yet to be explained.
  • Similarly, his patient Ironhide is nominally the original Ironhide from this timeline, but his resurrection (since an erroneous cameo in a Headmasters episode which stuck) has yet to be explained as well.
  • And on that note, the Wheeljack in this story isn't the original, but a parallel version from the BT World who has been trapped in this reality since "Controverse".
  • Optimus Prime's dead body has been configured into its Unite Warriors design despite it not appearing this way in his resurrection for the The Battlestars story pages. This would be justified in the next chapter.
  • Ratchet is working on Optimus's body in the Oracle chamber from the Beast Machines cartoon.
  • Vector Sigma acquires its design previously seen in "Train Wars", a gold-colored "virtual redeco" of the Eggbot mold.
  • Vector Sigma communicates with Sky Lynx using yellow rings, a fitting callback to "Call of the Primitives", where its previous form, the Oracle, communicated with Sky Lynx and the other Primitives in this way.
