He who dealt it

Ultragas (ウルトラガス Urutoragasu) loves surprises. He adores being the center of attention and creating mischief. You can probably guess how he goes about this. An entertainer before the war for planet Beast, he specializes in lowbrow humor and pranks, using his incredible ninja-like stealth to sneak up behind the unsuspecting. This walking chemical factory can then use his Air Changer (エアーチェンジャー Eā Chenjā) MVP Weapon to alter the density and chemical compositions of gases, and hit his victim with a cloud of something stinky... or worse.

It was these sneaky skills that got him recruited into Alligatron's army, where he was employed as a spy. During this time, his jokes became crueler and crueler, as he found delight in tormenting the weak.

Following the war, he returned to being the smelly prankster entertainer, but with the mean-spiritedness back in check. He now serves as the Emperor of Rhodes under the outwardly-gloomy King Undergroun. Undergroun's kind and thoughtful nature has rubbed off on the skunk, and he's proven to be a very helpful beast. The two even have a telepathic link, enabling the two to work in tandem even as the mole is deep underground.

Toys

Transformers: Beastformers

  • Ultragas (Beastformer, 1987)
  • ID number: 52
  • Pack: E
  • Accessories: Sword (usually)
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Ultragas is a lavender anthopomorphic skunk in black robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
He usually comes with a copper stink-line-shaped sword weapon marked with the same ID number as on his back. However, Beastformers is notorious for toys coming with someone else's weapon; it's unclear if this was just originally poor QC, but in the sequel series, this semi-random weaponry was actually turned into a "gimmick".
He was only available in the "E Pack" assortment, and came in a green-grid generic "Destron Beastformer" box. He came with a bio card with a comic-style character image on a jungle backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "VS Holography Mirror" card featuring Green Chameles and Platinum Tiger.

Notes

  • Ultragas's 1987 character art reverses his colors, giving him black fur with lavender armor, and colors his sword silver. His 1988 art corrects these errors.
  • As Ultragas was not sold in the post-Transformers sequel series and thus had no bio card, his "RPG"-era bio comes from the Hero Special 4: Beastformers mook. This bio gives him the nickname "Hēsuke" (へースケ)... which needs a little unpacking. -suke is a common ending for Japanese surnames, while he (屁) is one of the words for "fart". Thus, "Hēsuke" is roughly the Japanese equivalent of "Fartbert". He is also used in the Japanese word for "skunkvine", hekusokazura (屁糞葛).
