The Xetaxxans were a race of Cybertronian-scale mechanoids embroiled in a centuries-long war with their neighbor planet Lanarq, with both sides using the Quintessons as arms suppliers. After this war had raged for centuries, devastating both worlds, it came to the point where both planets would be wiped out entirely. An Autobot peace conference between the two sides quickly broke down despite the best efforts of Rodimus and Ultra Magnus.

Eventually, Sky Lynx arrived with a Quintesson Journal that revealed that the Quintessons had deliberately stoked tensions between the two races and prolonged their conflict to profit off their supply of weaponry to both sides. This revelation ended the war and ended with both species agreeing to keep to their own worlds. The Quintesson Journal

2005 IDW continuity

"What the—I was organic this whole time?!"

A human-sized race of hairy organics, the Xetaxxians eked out a tribal life on their frigid homeworld, wrapping themselves up in heavy winter clothing to cope with the extreme temperatures. Shining Armor #3

When the Solstar Order space station Orchid Crossing crashed onto their planet, Shining Armor #2 a mutated fusion between Sky Blast and a Dire Wraith crashed into a nearby Xetaxxian settlement. It rampaged through the village, forcing its inhabitants to flee, before its biology broke down and it burned itself away. Intrigued at the prospect of fusing with another mechanical life-form, Vekktral wondered if the natives were mechanical; Starscream removed one's helmet and promptly chucked it away to its doom when he saw it was organic. In order to move about undetected on the planet and ambush their foes, the Dire Wraiths would go on to assimilate a number of Xetaxxians.

In the meantime, a different group of Xetaxxians had arrived at the remains of Orchid Crossing, where, to Livia's disgust, they began scavenging the ruins of the ship and the remains of the space station's crew. When the Decepticon Seekers struck, Rom socked Starscream in the jaw and heroically swore to protect the Xetaxxians while Stardrive used her alternate mode to help carry some of the scavengers to safety.

Providing the natives with some heat by using his laser weaponry on some rubble, Bumblebee stumbled into the Wraith trap when the Xetaxxians he had helped were revealed as Wraith imposters. Shining Armor #3

In battle, Rom fashioned a shield from his armor to defend several Xetaxxians from Ramjet. A small cluster of them bore witness to Stardrive's short lived defection from the order of the Space Knights before they revealed themselves to be Wraiths when a Vekktral possessed Ultra Magnus arrived. Shining Armor #4

The Xetaxxian species was presumably halved when Starscream detonated the energon synthesizer and sterilized 48% of Xetaxxis. Shining Armor #5
