Peacock is putting more sand in the hourglass, renewing Days of Our Lives for Season 61, TVLine has learned.
After more than five decades on NBC, the soap migrated over to Peacock in 2022, where it regularly appears on the streamer’s list of the 10 most-watched titles. The show will hit another milestone on Dec. 2 when it airs its 15,000th episode.
Tragedy hit the Days family in September when long-time cast member Drake Hogestyn (aka John Black) died at 70 years old, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. The show also recently lost Bill Hayes (Doug Williams), who died in Jan. 2024 at the age of 98, and John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis), who passed in Nov. 2022 at age 89. Aniston’s character received an on-screen farewell in Sept. 2023, while Hayes’ character will be honored by the people of Salem next month.
The show has also seen a bit of of behind-the-scenes upheaval as of late. Popular cast member Brandon Barash appeared in his final episode as Stefan DiMera earlier this week, after revealing that he’d been let go from the show, and Arianne Zucker — who alleged that former executive producer Albert Alarr sexually harassed her and several other female employees — ended her two-decade run as Nicole Walker this summer. Emily O’Brien, who played both Gwen Rizczech and Theresa Donovan 2.0, also confirmed her exit in August.

Hahaha take that all you naysayers 🤗
Yayy!!!!
This show died as soon as NBC cancelled it and moved it to this awful streaming service
Correction. The show would have died if it hadn’t moved to peacock. Why don’t people get that they were gonna cancel the show?
I really hope the new writers can revitalize the show and energize some of the stagnant characters. Losing Drake still hurts. I think this show still has potential even with it’s shrinking budget. Heck, I’d donate to a GoFundMe or a Patreon at this point to help them get better sets and afford outside shots on occasion.
Losing Drake is huge. I’m not over it. Tragic.
They need writers who know how to create new and interesting characters. Days reinvigorated itself when it added the Brady and DiMera families. They need new characters and stories. They don’t need to dump the older characters, just give them something new to work with.
I’m a little worried that we only got a single season pickup.
Agree. Usually, they renew for two or three seasons. They would be foolish to cancel since it is one of Peacock’s top 10 shows. I watch every weekday after work.
Same here. I also watch it on Peacock every day, or I’ll binge watch several episodes in one day when I have an occasional busy week, and I’m unfortunately too busy to watch an episode of Days of Our Lives on the day that it airs. Regardless, Days of Our Lives has definitely been “Must See” TV for me these days. 😀
Peacock is losing so much money they may go out of business before the year is over.
Renew Bel-Air.
I have watched it from day 1….a forever fan. Thanks for renewing it !!!!!
Good writing crew, this show always has you anxious for the next episode. The good characters are always stable & the bad keep you in suspense.
Enjoy 3 soaps at the moment, some are so repetitive but not Days of our Lives. Well done & good actors playing the parts.
Great news! Days is the main reason why I have a subscription to Peacock.
