The Old Fox and his team have make a reconstitution of the robbery made by Harry Apelius called "The Rat".The Rat was arrested and had confessed that he killed the man in the gas station.But now in the reconstitution Harry manages to escape.At the end nobody understands how Harry escaped.Harry was an informer who has helped the Old Fox to arrest several robbers and thieves and The Old Fox is accused to have helped The Rat to escape.Some hours later The Rat calls the Old Fox and ironically says that he will not come to the police, soon he will travel to South America.

On a cold wet day a patrol car approaches an isolated farm.One of the policemen gets out to check the house.Suddenly he sees a young man behind a car, asks him him to throw away his revolver, the young man points his pistol towards him,the policeman injured him.From a window another young man shoots and injured the policeman.Several young men rush out of the house and drag him inside and also the injured young man.Then the other policeman is taken hostage and pushed into the house.At the police headquarters the commissioner has an idea: he must speak with Dragan Janczak called the "Gipsy", maybe he can help because his son,Roman Janczak is among the young men who escaped from the prison and kidnapped the both policemen.

Dorothea Hormann is tired of her relation with her husband Georg and wants to be free and to live with her lover Richard.One morning Richard was following Georg, they began to fight and Richard kills Georg with two shots.

Gusta Grigoleit, the gardener who worked for Werner Martius has been killed by shots.Werner Martius explains that Gustav came to his house 33 years ago, that he doesn't had friends except a old couple that came from East Prusia ,visited every year Gustav and finally went to America.Gustav had also good relations with the housekeeper who now lives in a retirement home.A niece of Werner Martius, Angelika , takes care of the house,also there is a chauffeur who was absent this day.The Old Fox and Gerd Heymann are quite anxious,because they don't have any clue, also they haven't found the arm of the crime.Only one thing: in the house of Gustav they only found some photographs, not any document or letter.
