Film Opening Development

This document provides a peer assessment of an opening sequence created by 101 Productions. The assessors felt that the editing gripped the audience by using various techniques that fit the genre and represented the main character's situations well. While the sequence avoided revealing the full narrative, some of the title screens were quite short. The production logo looked professional but the titles could be lengthened and music added to be more synchronous with the images. Overall the sequence was considered satisfactory and full of mystery while staying true to the genre.

For: 101 Productions OPENING SEQUENCE

PEER ASSESSMENT BY ENIOLA SILVA AND CONOR DRAKE

Success Criteria
We will be successful if...
Our use of sound in the form of our soundtrack is

synchronous to the moving images our audience view, by using a variety of music and seeing how well it fits in with the clips. Our editing grips the audience, if we use a wide range of covert and overt editing. The editing should be parallel to our genre and represent the situations our main character faces. We dont turn the opening sequence into a mini narrative, but keep it as the start point for the story and actionfocusing instead on building suspense and enigma codes. We use appropriate font and colours for our titles.

What do you think worked well?

Our Editing identifies our genre

Creates a lot of enigma codes

Our Production Logo looks professional

What do you think could be improved?

Make the titles longer

COMMENT
Full of enigma codes, does not reveal the overall narrative immediately. The duration of some of the titles are quite short, but their placements are clever. We used jump cuts, flashes, transitions. This helped us promote continuity and helped create tension. We are still working on our music, and are trying to make it synchronous to our images. Clear, emotion provoking, great voice and adds to the realism of our moving images.

Our conventions stick to our genre.

Additional Comments

We need to change the colour of some of the clips with the use of colour correction effect.
