Use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions Objectives: Students will learn to locate current events, organize, analyze and evaluate the event. Materials Needed: Google News Outline: I will open up Google News and show the students how to navigate the site. Students will be allowed to choose any news article that interests them. Once they found their article, Students will write down the title and main points of the news event. I will then instruct students to enter the current event into Google. Students will be looking for the same news event from a different source o Example, if their original source was from CNN, the second source could be from the New York Times.
Students will look at the two sources and compare the news event. o How is one different from the other? o How are they the same? To show comprehension students will end the lesson with a one page write up of their findings.
Resources: Students will use Google news, along with another source, to explore the world of current events.
Evaluation: I will look at the students write up to see if they correctly compared the two news articles. Notes: We will do this assignment a few times throughout the semester. It is important for students to keep up with events going on in the world. http://news.google.com/ http://www.k12reader.com/lesson-plan-template-pdfs/secondary-dailysingle-subject.pdf
