Build Up Area - Part I

This document provides instructions for creating a layout plan of an existing building by manually measuring distances and offsets. Key steps include establishing a baseline, assigning base points along the baseline nearest to corners and features of the building, measuring the distance between base points and recording the offset distances to corners/features. The results table shows the base point, target corner/feature, offset distance, and distance between base points collected. While quick, the manual process has some accuracy issues due to terrain and environmental challenges reaching measurement points.

Build Up Area

- PART I -

Aims of experiment:
Take the measurements and details of a standing building into a layout plan.
Equipment:
1.
2.
3.
4.

50 m Tape.
Range Poles, Pegs.
Nails.
Lime or spray.

Procedure:
1. Determine a baseline and with tape measure find out the distance and
the offset between it and the building.
2. Assign the first base point A
3. Using perpendicular lines and the shortest distance find the distance
between the base line and the first corner of the building.
4. Using lime mark the position of the perpendicular point on the base
line base point that is the nearest to the corner position target on
the building.
5. Record the distance between the new point and the previous base
point A and the offset distance between it and the corner of the
building.
6. Repeat the same steps for every window door location and corner on
the building marking the nearest point on the base line and recording
the distance and offset.

Conclusion:
Manually taking the measurements and details of a standing building into a
layout plan using a tape is a n easy and quick method but the accuracy of
readings is somehow questionable because the distance and offset reading
may have a noticeable error due to topography of the location and
difficulties to reach to every target point we may need to take, natural
reasons like wind may also cause errors.
