GENERAL OBJECTIVES IN MAKING BEDS
 To provide a clean , comfortable sleeping & resting
environment for the patient.

 To eliminate irritants to skin by providing wrinkle-free


sheets & blankets.

 To avoid patient exertion by making bed while


occupied.

 To enhance patient’s self-image by providing a clean,


neat & comfortable bed
GENERAL OBJECTIVES IN MAKING BEDS
 To properly dispose of soiled linens & not promote cross-
contamination.

 To correctly align patient to assist in promoting a


physically & emotionally safe & comfortable position.

 To prevent stress to the nurse’s back or limbs during


procedure.
BED MAKING ( UNOCCUPIED BED)
Requirement:-
 mattress 1 pillow
 1 bedsheet 1 pillow case
 1 draw sheet 1 draw mackintosh
 1 long mackintosh 1 blanket
 Linen bag Receiver

Objectives :- To provide a clean and


comfortable place for rest and sleep
PROCEDURE:

1. Check spring of bed – not defective


2. Check mattress – not torn
3. Line the mattress with long mackintosh – to
prevent soiling the mattress
4. Place bed sheet on long mackintosh
5. Tug neatly the bed sheet, ensuring no creases
of bed sheet.
BED MAKING – UNOCCUPIED BED

6. Miter the corner at the head of the bed by picking up the


side edge of the sheet so that it forms a triangle with the
head of the bed and the side edge perpendicular to the bed.

7. One side of your hand hold the sheet and use the other
hand’s palm to tuck the excess sheet under the mattress.

8. Drop the sheet over your hand and tuck the flap of the
sheet under the mattress. (envelope corner)
PROCEDURE:

9. Place draw mackintosh at about mid bed –


to prevent soiling of bedsheet, preventing
frequent changing of bedsheet.

10. Place drawsheet on draw mackintosh and


tug neatly in the ends of drawsheet.
PROCEDURE:

11. Fold blanket into 4, lengthwise and tug the


bottom fold under the mattress

12. Tug the blanket neatly

13. Put pillow in pillow case & place at the head of


the bed with the opening away from the door
