In case of OC mains, connect the [+] line to terminat 1 and the [-] line tu terminal 3. Ground the inner shields of each line. 19, When a gyrocompass is installed, connect its five-core cable to the (6-4137 board (inside the unit). For connection with other equipment, see the drawings on the preceding page. 20. Connect the coaxial cable of the multicore cable to jack J201 on the VDA-7047 board 21. When the 240cm radiator is used with AC ship's mains, Rectifier Unit RU-3423 is required. The power supply (switched) is led from terminals land 2 of T81 on the PCT-5141 board. 22. Connect the 24VDC output trom the Xectitier Umit to terminals 13 [+] and 14 [-] of DTB2. RECTIFIER UNIT INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION A Rectifier Unit (RU-3423) is required when the 240cm radiator is used with the AC Ship's Mains, since inverter output from the Power Supply Board DIB-7144, which is ordinarily used to drive the antenna motor, is insuf- ficient. The unit may be mounted in any well-ventilated, dry place. Be sure to leave sufficient space for maintenance and ventilation. The mounting dimensions and recommended maintenance clearance for the unit are shown in the outline 1-15drawing on page D-9. The compass safe distance, 2.1 meters, standaré com- pass, and 1.5 meters, steering compass, should be observed. For connection to this unit, refer to both the outline drawing on page 0-9 and the interconnection diagram on page S-1. AVC 190/120 /115vAC Fig, 1-20 Connecting the Rectifier Unit TRANSFORMER UNIT INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION Transformer unit RU-1758 (220V) or RU-1803 (440V) is required to operate the radar from 220 or 440VAC ship's mains. Either unit provides 10OVAC vower to the display unit. Connect the unit as shown below. The unit may be installed in any dry, well ventilated place. Mounting timensions are given in the outline drawing on page D-8. Check that the connec- tors and circuit boards are firmly connected to respective jacks and plugs. Then, apply the power and check radar functions item by item according to the following procedure. 1. Turn the power on and confirm by the. check meter on the sub pane! that the 12V and SV lines are operating normally. The meter should read between 6 and 8. 2. After the indication "ST-BY" appears on the screen, wait 20 min. for magnetron oscillation to stabilize. Then, turn the FUNCTION switch between ST-BY and TRANSMIT about 10 times. 3. After making sure there are no obstructions around the antenna, turn the SCANNER switch to ON and confirm that the antenna is rotating formally. 4. Under transmitting condition, check the following by using the check meter. Item Range | Meter Reading Magnetron Current | 4@nn | 4 to 8.5 | Tuning 48nm | 5 to 10 MIC Current 0.26mm | 6108 5. Fig. 2-2 Adjusting R6 Main Bang Suppression After the transmission timing adjustment is made, perform the following pro- cedure to minimize the main bang effect. 1. Transmit the radar on Tang range and wait 10 minutes. Adjust the gain control so that a slight amount of noise is visible on the screen. 2. Set the range to 0.25nm and adjust the A/C SEA control for best picture definition. 3. Adjust VR463 on the PST-7143 board until the main bang disappears. NOTE: Too high a setting of NBS will cause the target echo in close ranges to disappear. Heading Alignment The heading mark should appear on the scrcen at the instant the radar beam passes the ship's bow. This adjustment should be made by observing the pic- ture on the screen rather than being done mechanically because the direction of the emitted radar beam is not perpendicular to the radiator aperture but deviates by a certain amount--the squint angle. At the operating frequency of this radar system, the squint angle is about 2.5 degrees advanced in the turning direction of radiator. edure 1. Select the Head-up mode; set the range to 3nm and operate the radar to obtain a normal picture. 2-32 6 Select a suitable target echo (small island, end of quay, etc.) located on or around the heading mark and near the edge of the screen. : Press the ON portion of the [EBL] touchpad to present an EBL on the screen. Operate the rotary knob control until the EBL bisects the target. On a navigational chart find the relative bearing of the target from the ship's heading, noting the exact direction of the ship's heading when daing so. Relative bearing can also be found by visually measuring the direction of the target from the ship's bow with a dumb card, easing Ao me arse C "Bearings “a ane 0" —— should be the same. Fig, 2-3 Heading Alignment The bearing of the target from the heading mark should be the same as that found on the navigational chart or the visual measurement. If there is a difference between them adjust the Rotary Switch S2 (coarse ydjustment) on the 03P7030 board so that the difference is within + 5°, Then, adjust Rotary Switch S1 (fine adjustment) to make the two coincide. Tf the adjustment cannot be made by the rotary switches e, take off the scanner housing cover and adjust Reed Switch S901; then readjust the Rotary Switches. reed switch $001 NOTE, Refix the scanner housing cover before operating the scanner, since direct sunlight may cause the bearing signal generator Fig. 2-4 Location of Reed to malfunction. Switch $901 2-4Magnetron Heater Voltage If the length of the multicore cable is different from the standard one (15m), the Magnetron Heater Voltage should be adjusted as follows. See Figs.'2-5 and 2-6 for the location of test points. FR-2010 1. Operate the radar in Stand-by, 0.25 nm range; set the CRT brilliance control fully counterclockwise and turn the Scanner switch OFF. 2. Connect a multimeter, set to the 10VOC range, between P8O1 #12 (+) and a). 3. Adjust the position of the sliding contact of R812 for a multimeter reading of 7.0 to 7.6V. ele Pwo Fig. 2-5 Location of Test Points Used to Adjust Magnetron Heater Voltage in the FR-2010FR-2020 Te perform magnerran heater voltage adjustment on the FR-2020, the radar must be set to "TRANSMIT" with scanner rotation suspended. This can not be accomplished by simply turning the SCANNER switch off, since radar pulses are not transmitted in this condition. To achieve this condition, the #5. ns a Fig. 2-6 Location of Test Points Used to Adjust Magnetron Heater Voltage in the FR-2020 2-5aTuning & Tuning Indicator Sensitivity Optimum tuning should be obtained with the maximum number of tuning markers displayed. If not, take the following procedure. 1. Set controls and switches as follows: RANGE: 48 nm, GAIN & CRT BRILLIANCE: properly adjusted, AIC SEA & A/C RAIN: fully CCW, TUNE: center position, ECHO STRETCH & INTERFERENCE REJECTER: OFF 2. Transmit the radar and wait for 10 minutes approx. for magnetron oscillation to stabi- lize. VGemesn | 3. Turn VR461 on the PST-7143 board fully — clockwise then turn it counter-clockwise tuning ber slowly until the maximum number of tuning markers are displayed. 4, Adjust VRS on the 03P7030 board until four NN tuning markers of the tuning bar light up with the fifth marker blinking. Fig. 2-7 Tuning Bar NOTE: If the best tuning point does not coin- cide with the maximum number of tuning markers, adjust VR461 on the PST-7143 board for the best tuning point obsery- ing the radar picture. Then adjust VR601 on the IF amplifier board as follows. IF Amp Case 1. Connect the voltmeter (set to LOVDC range) between #3(+) and #8(-) of P601 on the RF module or between #3(+) and #9(-) of terminal strip RTB8O1. 2. Adjust VR601 on the IF amplifier board for maximum voltmeter deflec- tion.
