Possible Career Questions

Here are a few guiding questions for your interview/job shadow. Most people enjoy talking about their careers.
It makes most adults feel good that young people are eager and interested in learning about what they do. If
possible get input from more than one person for each career of interest. This avoids the risk of screening out a
career due to tainted feedback from an adult that is having a particularly good or bad day.
How and why did you choose this career?
had always wanted to work with kids , and I felt it was meant for me.
What is a typical work day like?
I start by going to work around 7 am and organizing activities to do with the kids. There is breaks for the kids
and we let them decide which activities to do. Then at lunch they go home and a new group of kids show up for
the afternoon.
What are the most and least rewarding aspects of your job?
I find it most rewarding when the kids leave happy and it least rewarding when its chaotic and my hard work
isnt appreciated.
What are the working conditions like (stress, pace, physical comfort, travel, environment, relocation, hours,
routine vs. crises, etc.)?
It is stressful and at times exhausting looking after so many children. Its good hours . I dont have to travel. I
own my own business so I have made the working conditions work for me,
What education requirements are needed for your career? What Post-secondary Institutions do you
recommend for this occupation?
There is a 16 month training program, first aid course. I went to the Okanagan College and it was good.
6. What skills are required for this career?
Patience, Compassion, Focus and responsibility.
Would you choose this career if you could make the decision again? What (if anything) would you do
differently?
I would do the same thing.
What are the best opportunities for someone entering into your career?
Interning at a preschool.
What is the job outlook for this career? (Is there a shortage or oversupply of people in this career today?)
really dont know.
Does this career provide the opportunity to balance time between work and family?
Yes, I have a lot of time for my family.
11. What is an entry level wage? How about after 10 yrs.? What is the maximum potential for most
talented/experience people?
It varies. I believe the average is around 20.84 an hour.

Teacher, Nanny.
13. Any words of advice?

Make sure you do it for the right reasons. Choose a career that will make you happy.
