YOUR LINKEDIN CHECKLIST:

LinkedIn is one of the best places to start building an online personal brand you can be proud of and which gets you noticed by the right people. This checklist is designed to help
you create a profile which attracts the right people and opportunities.

Element It works Needs work The action I will take

1. Your profile picture – no grey shadows, please. Include a

passport-style picture of you only (no pets and kids). And let it
be recent (last 2 years)

2. Your LinkedIn banner – this is the space above your picture.

Use that space to showcase who you are and what you do. (A
great free tool which offers you a template to do this is
Canva.com)
3. Your headline – LinkedIn defaults to your latest job and title.
For optimal results, change this. Instead consider including all
the keywords or job titles a recruiter might search for. Or, tell a
story of who you are, who you help and the results you provide.
4. About Section – Write in 1st person. Talk about who you are,
who you help, your achievements and the work you are looking
for. Summarize your skills and include a call to action. For
example, to discuss your IT project email me on XXXXX.

5. Your Experience - Showcase your achievements first, then talk

about the roles and responsibilities in your work, internship,
volunteer opportunies or leadership positions. Where possible,

use numbers to show your results. For example, grew

membership by 10% from 100 to 110.

6. Your Skills - highlight the top 3 skills for your ideal job. Ask
your connections to endorse you.

7. Recommendations – Ask for at least 5 recommendations. These

are also known as testimonials. Consider people you’ve worked
with before who know your work ethics and standards. For
example, your boss, lecturer

8. Your Profile URL – remove numbers at the end. Customize

URL.

9. All Sections Complete – All Star Profile.

10. Education, Complete the details as relevant. Licenses and

Certifications (include if you have them).

My next steps with my profile are….. (Remember if you don’t set a goal and a deadline, your action points remain wishes)
