Birth- Second Grade Teacher


To receive a license to teach birth- 2 nd grade, a person must complete:
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators and the Praxis Content Area Test
They must also hold a bachelor's degree or graduate from an a accredited
college or university
Must have 3 semester hours of credit in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement
Completed a program of preparation to teach such pupils that is approved
by the board; or
Hold license to teach pupils that was issued by another state and
approved by commission; or
Hold an Elementary license, a secondary license, or a license to teach
middle or junior high school that is endorsed with a major in child care

Elementary Subjects K-8 Teacher


To receive a license to teach birth- 2nd grade, a person must complete:
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators and the Praxis Content
Area Test
They must also hold a bachelor's degree or graduate from an a
accredited college or university
Completed, pursuant to the provisions of NAC 391.095
Completed pursuant to the provisions of NAC 391.045
To add to endorsement to an elementary license, pursuant to NAC
391:098 a person must:
Complete 12 hours of credit within the area of the endorsement

Substitute Teacher
To qualify for a license to substitute a person must:
Be a citizen of the U.S. or a permanent resident
Have a minimum of sixty semester credits or an associates degree
or higher from an accredited college or university

Special Education(Exceptional Students)


Teachers

Reading Specialist
To receive an endorsement to teach reading a person must:
Hold a bachelors degree
Hold a valid elementary, middle school or junior high, secondary or
special teching license, excluding Business and Industry
Have a least 16 semester credits in ready that include the following
areas:

Foundations of Reading
Elementary Methods and Materials
Secondary Methods and Materials
Diagnosis of reading disabilities
A practicum in reading remediation

Art Specialist
To receive an endorsement to teach art a person must:
Complete the following test
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators
Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6 or 7-12
Praxis Content Area Test

They must also hold a bachelor's degree


Have completed 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement
Have completed:
22 semester credits of professional education
36 semester credits in the principles of fine and applied arts

Library/ Media Specialist


To receive an endorsement as a school library media specialist one must:
Have a valid elementary, middle school or junior high school, secondary or special
teaching license , which exclude business and industry license
Completed a program for school library media specials which has been approved
by the Board or a regional accrediting association
Hold a maters or more advanced degree in library science
Have completed 22 semester credits to include coursework in the following
subjects:

Organization and administration of a school library;


Cataloging and classification of materials for a library
Reference, bibliography and information skills
Use and selection of educational media for a library;
Childrens and young adults literature
Computers in the library
A supervised practicum in an elementary, middle or junior high school, or a secondary
school library.

Physical Education Specialist


To receive endorsement to teach PE a person must:
Complete the following test
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators
Praxis Content Area Test

They must also hold a bachelor's degree


Have completed 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement and
A. Have completed an approved program of preparation for teaching PE in K12
B. Have completed 42 semester credits which include some of the following
A. Anatomical Kinesiology or Mechanical Kinesiology, or both
B. The Physiology of Exercise
C. Testing and measuring the skill and ability of a pupil in physical education

C. 22 semester credits in professional education

Music Specialist
Complete the following test
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators
Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6 or 7-12
Praxis Content Area Test

They must also hold a bachelor's degree


Have completed 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement
Have completed a prohram for teaching music approved by the
Board or
Have completed:
22 semester credits of professional education
36 credits in the foundations of music

Educational Computer Strategist (Computer


Applications)

School Counselor
To receive endorsement as a school counselor a person must:
Complete the following test
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators
Praxis Content Area Test

Have completed 3 semester credits in a course of study regarding parental


involvement and family engagement
Hold a masters or more advanced degree in school counseling
Must hold a specialty credential as a National Certified School Counselor
issued by the National Board for Certified Counselors
Must hold a masters or more advanced degree with a major in counseling
conferred by a regionally accredited college or university
Must hold a masters or more advanced degree conferred by a regionally
accredited college or university and have at least two (2) years of teaching
experience or at least two (2) years of school counseling experience.

School Psychologist
To receive an endorsement as a school psychologist a person must:
Complete 3semester credits in a course of study regarding parental
involvement and family engagement
Hold certificate as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist issued
by the National School Psychology Certification System of the
National Association of School Psychologists
Hold a graduate degree with preparation in school psychology and
Have 60 semester credits from the required areas
Have completed practicum and a minimum of 1000 hour internship in
school psychology

School Administrator
To receive endorsement as an administrator of a school a person
must:
Hold a valid middle school/junior high, secondary or special teaching
license
Hold a masters degree
Have completed 3 years of teaching experience in accredited K-12
schools
Have completed at least 24 semester hours of graduate courses in
the administration of a school
