Physics Lab Report

The document outlines an experiment to measure various properties using different measurement devices. The objectives are to measure values using meters sticks, vernier calipers, micrometers, and balances. It also aims to understand accuracy and precision of measurements. The introduction explains that physics relies on accurate measurements and different instruments are used to measure length, mass, and temperature. It describes how meters sticks, vernier calipers, micrometers, and balances are used to take measurements and their level of uncertainty.

Introduction:

Physics is a natural and quantitative science, relying on accurate

measurements of fundamental properties such as time, length, mass and
temperature. These properties can be measured by using various
instruments such as meter sticks, vernier calipers, micrometer calipers,
triple-beam balances and laboratory thermometers. In order to achieve
the accuracy of the measured values, student needs to know how to
handle and use the instruments properly.
The instrument that is often used by us to measure length is meter ruler
or stick. The smallest subdivision of the meter stick is millimeter, which
means the millimeter is the unit of the smallest reading that can be made
without estimating. The uncertainty of the meter stick is 0.01cm.
Next is vernier caliper. This instrument is frequently used to measure the
inner diameter and the outer diameter of an object. In fact, the primary
use of the instrument is to measure all those diameters. The uncertainty
of the vernier caliper is 0.002cm.
Other instrument that will be used for this measurement is micrometer.
Before using the micrometer, we need to identify the zero error so that our
value will be accurate and reliable. Micrometer can do the measurement
down to 0.1 millimeter. So basically, the uncertainty of the micrometer is
0.001cm which is so small and precise.
Lastly, one of the instruments that measures mass is triple-beam balance.
It measures the mass of an object by balancing the unknown mass with
sliding masses of known values. The unit used by triple-beam balance
usually in gram. The uncertainty of the triple-beam balance is 0.01g.
