4TH PRECINCT HIGHLIGHTS----WEEK643---May 18th---May 24th, 2010

MPD provides this public safety information as a public service. These highlights are not reflective
of all incidents handled or investigated by the MPD during this time. All persons are considered
innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

MURDER:
Murder
33XX Russell Ave N Friday 5/21/10 0001 hrs 10-142363
Squads were dispatched to the above location on a dead person. Sqds arrived & found 2 deceased. Area was secured &
Homicide responded. No further information.

ARSON:
34XX Penn Ave N Thursday 5/20/10 0345 hrs 10-141068
Address is a 2-story, single family home with a wood frame. Fire was located in the dining room area, (SE corner of the
structure). MFD responded & forced entry through the front door to attack the room of origin. The entire house smelled of
gasoline & a gasoline can was located on the kitchen floor. Fire patterns in the house indicated flammable liquids were poured.
The cause of the fire is considered to be arson & damage is estimated at $60,000. No suspects. No injuries.

ASSAULT:
Assault 2 w/a Dangerous Weapon
18XX Penn Ave N Tuesday 5/18/10 1908 hrs 10-139491
V1/BM, 16 yrs, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left shoulder area, when a light-colored car drove up & at least 2 shots
were fired from the passenger seat. V1 saw a gun was sticking out the window of the vehicle & could not describe the shooter
or anyone in the car. V1 said no words were exchanged with the suspect(s). V1 was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Domestic Assault 2
10XX 16th Ave N Wednesday 5/19/10 0010 hrs 10-139893
V1/BF, 25 yrs, & AP1/ BM, 53 yrs, are friends & got into a physical fight. AP1 struck V1 on the forehead with a hammer,
then stabbed her in the left shoulder. V1 was also struck with a metal pole during the fight. V1 was transported to the
hospital via ambulance & AP1 was booked in HCJ.

11XX 33 Ave N Wednesday 5/19/10 2230 hrs 10-140876
V1/BF, 27 yrs, & her boyfriend, S1/BM, 28 yrs, got into an argument & S1 threw a bottle at V1, striking her in the back of the
head. S1 had been drinking & has lived with V1 for about 2-3 months. S1 also threatened to break out windows of the
residence. S1 fled on foot prior to officer’s arrival. V1 has been assaulted by S1 in the past.

23rd Ave N & Vincent Ave N Thursday 5/20/10 2250 hrs 10-141998
V1/BM, 28 yrs, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg after an argument with known S1/BM, 25 yrs. V1 left the scene &
pounded on the door of OT1/BF, 41 yrs, as V1 is a friend of OT1’s son. V1 asked that someone take him to the hospital, but
en route, an ambulance responded & V1 was taken to the hospital via ambulance. S1 GOA. V1 was hesitant in providing info
about the shooting.
Assault 3/Significant Bodily Harm
5XX Irving Ave N Friday 5/21/10 0850 hrs 10-142380
V1/unknown race female, 50 yrs, is a staff member of the school at this location. S1/BF, 15 yrs, requested that V1 let her into
the classroom. As V1 did this, S1 shoved V1 & without provocation, went over to V2/Indian female, 16 yrs, & began
punching her in the head & torso with a closed fist. V2 sustained many hits & suffered severe pain in her arm & nose area. V2
was transported to the hospital with a possible broken nose & badly injured arm.

26th Ave N & Penn Ave N Saturday 5/22/10 0300 hrs 10-146011
V1/BF, 47 yrs, got into a car with a stranger at this location--S1/BM, approx 28 yrs, freckled complexion, braided hair. S1
punched V1 in the face while driving the car. V1 attempted to get out & part of her body was dragged. When V1 finally got
out, S1 chased V1, threatening her with a broken bottle. S1 GOA. V1 transported to the hospital.

Assault 2 w/a Dangerous Weapon


32XX Newton Ave N Saturday 5/22/10 0600 hrs 10-143709
Officers responded to a call where V1/BM, 25-30yrs, was sitting outside at the above location with 2 or 3 cuts to his arm.
Stabbing did not occur at this location, but somewhere in the City of Minneapolis. V1 was transported to the hospital via
ambulance. No further information at this time.

Assault 3/Significant Bodily Harm


12XX Knox Ave N Saturday 5/22/10 0941 hrs 10-143736
V1/BF, 33 yrs, stated that her brother’s girlfriend, S1/BF, 23 yrs., attacked her when V1 observed S1 near the damaged
windshield on V1’s brother’s car. S1 hit V1 twice in the head & pulled her hair. S1 bit V1 in the thumb & tore the skin open.
V1 fought back, biting S1 in the arm. S1 ran after V1, pulling her to the ground. V1 ran away & went to the hospital for
medical treatment. S1 GOA.

42XX Webber Park Saturday 5/22/10 1348 hrs 10-143883
V1/WF, 39 yrs, was a guest of V2/BF, 42 yrs, at this location. V2 stated that AP1/WM, 47 yrs, assaulted her that morning &
she called V1 to help. AP1 pulled a gun on V1 & demanded that she get out of the house. V1 fled & called police. AP1 was
apprehended & officers located a loaded shotgun in an upstairs bedroom, along with a .22 rifle & pellet gun. These weapons
were not in AP1’s room, but AP1 had access to them. No injuries.

26XX Emerson Ave N Saturday 5/22/10 1735 hrs 10-144047
V1/BM, 23 yrs, told responding officers that he was shot in front of the above location by unknown S1/BM, 19-21 yrs, caramel
complexion, thin, wearing a white t-shirt & blue baseball cap. Gun was believed to be a .22 caliber. V1 stated he was walking
when S1 approached him head on & pulled the gun out of his waistband. S1 then shot V1 for no apparent reason & ran. V1
was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

39XX Fremont Ave N Saturday 5/22/10 2100 hrs 10-146142
V1/BF, 24 yrs, went to her Aunt’s home to check on her welfare, as she feels her aunt is being mistreated by her boyfriend,
S1/BM, 34 yrs. Prior to arriving there, V1 phoned the home. S1 answered & advised V1 that he was coming outside. When
V1 arrived at the house, S1 exited the door with a short barreled shotgun & pointed it at her. V1 fled in her vehicle as she
feared for her life. V1 stated that her Aunt/W1, S1’s girlfriend, previously showed up at work with a black eye. W1 advised
officers that S1 did point a shotgun at V1. W1 refused all police service. S1 GOA.

30XX Knox Ave N Sunday 5/23/10 1525 hrs 10-145314
Officers were dispatched to the above address on a shooting. V1/BM, 20 yrs, was in the back yard with a gunshot wound to
his back. Several black males waived officers down & informed them about the location of the victim & that the incident
occurred in the alley, between Knox & Logan N. V2/BM, 47 yrs, stated he heard several shots in the alley behind his home &
while he didn’t witness the shooting, he observed S1/BM, wearing a white hoodie, holding something in his waistband &
running through his yard. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance with a non-life threatening wound. S1GOA.

29XX Upton Ave N Sunday 5/23/10 1641 hrs 10-145364
Officers responded to the area on the report of a SHOTS call. Officers located a black Cadillac heavily damaged with the keys
in the ignition & no one inside. V2/BM, 22 yrs & V3/BM, 19 yrs, attempted to go back inside the vehicle & showed no sign
of injuries. Since this was a SHOTS call, parties were pat searched & complained of injuries when placed in a squad.
Ambulance was requested by victims. V1/WF, 24 yrs, was the driver of the vehicle & was found nearby. V1 reported no
injuries & refused ambulance. V2 & V3 said they were passengers in the vehicle with V1, when they were shot at by a white
vehicle driving past. No further info.

ROBBERY:
ROBPER
Broadway Ave W & Bryant Ave N Wednesday 5/19/10 1100 hrs 10-140177
V1/BF, 57 yrs, was standing on the corner of the intersection when S1/BM, 18-21 yrs, wearing a BB cap, & a blue shirt
w/polka dots, walked up to V1 & pulled her purse off her shoulder. S1 ran off with the purse. Loss includes a small amount of
cash, & Methadone medication. Suspect GOA. V1 was not injured.

29TH Ave N & Emerson Ave N Sunday 5/23/10 0110 hrs 10-144870
V1/BF, 44 yrs, was on a bus when S1/BM, 19-20 yrs, convinced her that he & his mother knew V1 from church. Leaving the
bus, V1 was lured to the above area, by S1 & S2/BM, 19-20 yrs, who then fled. Four additional BM suspects, 20-25 yrs, came
up & pistol whipped the back of her head, knocking V1 to the ground. Suspects 3, 4, 5, & 6 had handguns & demanded money
as they continued to pistol whip the back of V1’s head. Suspects pulled V1 by the head, putting their guns in her face, & her
wig came off. One suspect ripped the back of V1’s jeans & took her cash & blank money orders. All suspects fled on foot &
V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

17TH Ave N & Sheridan Ave N Sunday 5/23/10 2255 hrs 10-145704
V1/mixed race female, 18 yrs, & V2/BM, 25 yrs, stated 3 unknown BM suspects, 18-21 yrs, got out of a brownish tan
Suburban, after driving past them & came towards V2 with a black handgun. S1 put the gun to V1’s head & demanded his
belongings. Victims observed S2 with the handle of a handgun sticking out of his pants & S3 with a long skinny barreled
handgun. V1 lost a Blackberry & car keys with remote. Taken from V2 were his Air Force One shoes, a wallet containing
$25 in cash, a Social Sec. card, 3 diamond stud earrings, house keys, & a Virgin mobile cell phone. Suspects drove off after
taking their belongings. Victims not injured.

9XX Broadway Ave W Monday 5/24/10 1200 hrs 10-146248
V1/BM, 35 yrs, stated he just cashed a Western Union check for $65 at the above location. As V1 was leaving the biz, he was
counting his money in the open & unknown S1/BM, 18-30 yrs, grabbed the money out of his hands. At this time, unknown
S2/BM, 18-30 yrs, hit V1 twice in the face with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground. Suspects fled with the cash. V1
refused medical.

37TH Ave N & Fremont Ave N Monday 5/24/10 2306 hrs 10-146925
V1/BM, 21 yrs, was waiting for the bus at the above location & observed unknown S1/BM, 20-25 yrs, with a t-shirt wrapped
around his face, approaching him. S1 asked V1 if he had any money & V1 stated no. At that time, 5 other unknown males, all
with t-shirts around their heads, stood behind S1. S1 asked where the money was & other suspects began going through V1’s
pockets. S1 implied he had a gun & would use it if V1 did not cooperate. Other suspects slapped V1 & threw closed fist
punches at V1’s face, causing minor injuries. Suspects took V1’s cell hone, wallet, car keys, & backpack containing school
supplies & left. V1 refused medical.

I94 WB & Broadway Ave W Thursday 5/20/10 1129 hrs 10-141261
Officers conducted a traffic stop where a hand gun , marijuana, & cash were recovered. AP1/BM, 25 yrs, & AP2/Diyon BF, 20
yrs, were booked for PC Weapons.

Weap-Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit / Flee


Broadway Ave W & Dupont Ave N Thursday 5/20/10 1130 hrs 10-141258
Officers on bike patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop for loud music in a vehicle, when AP1/ BM, 23 yrs, accelerated &
fled from police. AP1 bailed from the vehicle, ran on foot, & was apprehended a short distance later. Officers observed a
Tech9 handgun in plain view on the front passenger seat of AP1’s vehicle. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Fleeing & PC
Weapons.

Weap-Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit


19XX Sheridan Ave N Friday 5/21/10 1300 hrs 10-142539
Officers responded to a fight with the report of gunfire. Witness described AP1/BM, 26 yrs, & officers spotted a party
matching his description, who fled through yards as officers approached. Officers heard a metal clanking sound coming from
the rear of an address & observed AP1 lying on the ground attempting to hide. AP1 then jumped up & continued fleeing, but
was apprehended. Officers recovered a handgun inside a metal grill in the yard where there was the metal clanking sound &
where AP1 tried to hide. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.
