The document provides instructions for painting space marine armor and brass details in stages from light to dark colors. It describes mixing colors like space wolves grey and chaos black and applying lighter base coats before glazing on darker tones. Begin by laying out the general colors: mixing space wolves grey and chaos black for the

metal surfaces. Be sure to leave these lighter, since they will be darkend with glazes of chaos black later.

Some areas of the metals have been lightened slighty to set where the light and shadow pattern will be. This determines where your darker glazes will be needed. More s.w.g was added to the mix in this step.

The darkening process was started by mixing chaos black with s.w.g. and glazing it in the areas determined to be darker. More black is added to the glazes. Be sure to create reflected light zones.

Once the darkest layers have been created, space wolves grey is used to pull out brighter highlights, and also to brighten the reflected light areas.

The transition areas are smoothed out with very light glazes of chas black mixed with space wolves grey. The highlights are brightened by adding white. Any cut marks or dents in the armor are created first by making white strips at various points.

More highlights are added. Some black lining is done to enhance edges (like those around rivets and the edges of armor pads and joints). The cut marks are finished by adding a black strip above or below the white line, depending on which direction the light is coming from.

The brass was created with a mix of sunset yellow and chaos black. A bit of sunset yellow is added to the original mixture to lighten it. The approach is the same as the armor, working light to dark, keeping in mind the reflected light.

The brass is lightened further by adding white to the mixture. The brightest highlights are made with mostly white and a bit of the original brass mixture.

This image shows the final highlights added to the brass, as well as some rust to the shield. The rust is created with firey orange and chaos black, adding more orange to lighten the mix. The final highlights of the rust are made by adding white to the mix. Focus on areas around rivets or chains, and seams in the armor or shield.
