Animation Process

The document outlines the animation process which includes development, pre-production, shot, and post-production phases. In the development phase, parameters are determined, the story is developed through characters and environments, and scripting and storyboarding take place. Pre-production involves recording dialogue, creating an animatic from the storyboard, and modeling characters. The shot phase has pre-planning camera movements and lighting, followed by precise animation and rendering. Finally, post-production adds backgrounds, sound effects, music, and titles.

ANIMATION PROCESS

Development Phase:
1. Determine Parameters: The length, style (whether cartoon based or realistic), number
of characters, if there is dialogue, how many scene changes to have, and what the
target resolution is
2. Story Development: Plan out the Plot, Conflict, and Characters to be used in your
story
3. Scripting & Outlining: Physically write out the complete animation production story,
or outline it on paper
4. Designing Characters: Draw out how each character should look
5. Environment Design: Draw out how the environments and props should look
6. Storyboarding: Draw out the main scenes for later use in references and planning
animation

Pre-Production Phase:
1. Dialogue: Record & process vocals
2. Animatic: Turn storyboard into video with vocals
3. Model characters, environments and objects
a. Textures (Maya)
b. Rigging (Maya)
4. Organize where files will be saved

Shot Phase:
1. Pre-plan camera movements – use rough animated solid objects to time everything
2. Animate characters precisely
3. Lighting (Maya) & render tests
4. Render: test render first, then final rendering

Post-Production Phase:
1. Add layers of background (Maya)
2. Sound effects & music score
3. Titles & credits
