2. A 25-KW, 250V, D.C. shunt generator has armature and field resistances of 6 and 100 respectively. Determine the total armature power developed when working (i) as a generator delivering 25KW output and (ii) as a motor taking 25KW input. (15M) 3. a) Describe the various losses in a transformer. b) A 5 KVA, 200/100 V, 1 phase, 50 Hz has a rated secondary voltage at full load. When the load is removed the secondary voltage is found to be 110V. Determine percentage regulation. (8M+7M) 4. a) Explain the working principle of 3 phase alternator. b) Establish a relationship between the number of poles, frequency and synchronous speed for a three phase alternator. (5b) is fed with a sinusoidal voltage V=20 sin100t. i) Sketch the output waveform. ii) Determine the DC output voltage assuming ideal diode behavior. iii) Repeat the calculations assuming the simplified diode (silicon) model. 1. By using the star-delta transformation find the current supplied by the battery for the figure shown. All the resistance are in ohms. (15M) 50 40 50 50 + 30V

2. a) Derive an equation for torque developed in a DC motor. b) A 220V D.C. shunt motor runs at 500 rpm when the armature current is 50A. Calculate the speed if the torque is doubled. Given that Ra=0.2 . (8M+7M) 3. a) Derive the E.M.F equation of a transformer. b) The maximum flux density in the core of a 250/3000 V, 50 Hz single-phase transformer is 1.2 Wb/m2. If the e.m.f per turn is 8 volt, determine (i) Primary and secondary turns (ii) Area of the core. (7M+8M) 4. a) Derive an e.m.f equation of an alternator? Also define pitch factor and distribution factor as applied to alternators? b) A 3- phase, 6 pole, 50 Hz induction motor has a speed of 950 rpm on full load. Calculate the slip at full load. (8M+7M) Part B 5. a) Draw the circuit diagram of half wave rectifier and explain its operation. b) A half wave rectifier is fed by 220 V, 50 Hz via a step down transformer of turns ratio 11:1. find i) the output DC and ii. Peak inverse voltage under no load condition. (8M+7M)
