Bodmas Rule

The document discusses the BODMAS rule for order of operations in mathematical expressions. It provides examples of problems and their step-by-step solutions. BODMAS is an acronym that represents the order of operations: Brackets, Orders (powers/indices), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction. The document provides examples of problems applying the BODMAS rule to determine the correct order of operations and solve for the value of a question mark. It also discusses how to handle multiple operations of the same type from left to right.

BODMAS RULE
If an expression has the operators like addition (+), subtraction (), multiplication (),
division (), bracket ( ) and of (of) then the precedence of simplification of these operators
is given by BODMAS rule. Here each letter of the word stands for first letter of the
operator i.e. B Bracket, Oof, DDivision, M Multiplication, AAddition and
SSubtraction.
Note: In an expression if two or more similar operators appear in succession then the

precedence should be from left to right.

for the months of April and May together?
1) 496

2) 480

3) 498

4) 488

5) None of these

Ans: 4
Solution: Quantity of rice for 1 day

Number of days for April and May together = 30 + 31 = 61

Rice required for 61 days = 61 8 = 488
18. The product to two consecutive even numbers is 1088. Which is the larger number?
2) 32

3) 36

4) 34

5) None of these

1) 38
Ans: 4

Solution: Addition of 1 to the product gives a perfect square i.e. 1088 + 1 = 1089
The square root of 1089 will be the odd number between the two consecutive even
numbers.

1089 = 33, which is the odd number between 32 and 34.

34 is the larger number.

fraction will be at the 3rd place?

Ans: 4

2) 3/5

3) 2/11

1) 1/3

4) 3/8

5) None of these

Solution: Convert the fractions into decimal values.

3/5 = 0.60, 2/11 = 0.18, 4/7 = 0.57, 1/3 = 0.33, 5/6 = 0.83, 3/8 =0.37
Arranging them in the ascending order, 0.37 takes the 3rd place.
The fraction at 3rd place when arranged in ascending order = 3/8
