O'Reilly and Thorsten

The document provides executive summary questions for two case studies: 1) For Case 14-1, it asks to discuss problems with O'Reilley Associates' current management control system and changes that could be made to implement a new system. 2) For Case 15-1, it presents three questions for AB Thorsten: which proposal Gillot should support for a new plant (Swedish or Belgian); how to set a transfer price if producing in Belgium and shipping to Sweden; and recommendations for changes to Gillot's management control systems.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY QUESTIONS

Case 14-1: OReilley Associates Discuss the problems you see with OReilleys current management control system. Then, discuss changes you would make and/or discuss a new management control system for the organization.

Case 15-1: AB Thorsten 1. Which proposal should Gillot support -- the Swedish or the Belgian proposal? Explain your answer . 2. Regardless of your answer to the previous question, if the plant were not built and the product were produced in Belgium and shipped to Sweden, what transfer price would be appropriate? (Note: You do not need a numeric transfer price, but rather you should describe how the transfer price would be determined.) 3. What changes in the management control systems would you recommend to Gillot?
