The Three Butterflies

A very good afternoon to the honourable judges, teachers and friends. Today, I would like to share with you a wonderful story about the three very close siblings who really hold on their relationships and how they go through their life loving each other very much. It is all about the three butterflies. Neeli, Jimmy and Lali were siblings and they were butterflies. The most handsome and beautiful butterflies in all the land, and best friends, too. Their mother, Rangberangi, had taught them all they knew. She told them many things, "But", she said, "My dear children, the most important thing of all to remember is that you must always depend on and support each other. Together, you will be stronger than the Sun, Wind and Rain combined even though you fly on delicate gossamer wings. Individually you are just ordinary butterflies, weak and fragile. So never let each other down." When they grew up, Neeli, Jimmy and Lali decided to explore the world, just as every good fairytale character must do. So they set off, discovering wonders that they had never dreamed possible. Excited and laughing, they flew restlessly about as though there was no tomorrow. Then a mean, black cloud spotted them and felt jealous of the fun that they were having. "Ha, ha, ha!," he laughed to himself, "lets see how loyal they really are to each other. Ill put them to the test." He began to rain. Neelis wings got wet, Jimmys wings got wet and Lalis wings got wet. Soon, it was difficult for them to fly with wet and heavy wings. "We must find some shelter before our wings get damaged," they cried. A gulmohar tree sparkled with red flowers. "Oh good Gulmohar, please let us take shelter in your flowers until the rain cloud has passed." "I can take Lali, the red butterfly," said the Gulmohar, "for my flowers are red. But I cant take the other two". "If you will not take in my brothers, I will not take shelter here either," said Lali angrily. Jimmy and Neeli tried to persuade Lali, but she would not agree. Then they came upon the blue mauve flowers of the Kachnar tree. The rain came down a little harder now, for the black cloud was a little annoyed that his plan had not worked. "Beautiful Kachnar," the three pleaded," give us shelter until the rain has passed" "I can protect Neeli in my blue flowers," said the tree, "but I cannot take in the other two."

"Then I too will not take shelter here," cried Neeli. The rain drenched them as the cloud grew furious. "I will never desert my brother and my sister." The same thing happened when they came to the Amaltas tree, which dripped with a thousand yellow flowers. "If you will not help my brother and my sister," said Peeli, "I too will do without your help." And they flew away together. The cloud turned white with shame when he realized the love and loyalty the siblings shared. Soon the Sun was shining through and Neeli, Jimmy and Lali flew on happily together. The next day, they flew together happily in a beautiful and colourful garden. They loved to see so many pretty flowers there. There were sunflowers, jasmines, cannas, roses and hibiscus. They were colourful, too. The three siblings loved to fly all around the garden. Suddenly, they were spotted by a boastful wind. He was so proud of himself that nobody will save from his hard wind. Ha, ha, ha! Hey, you there! The wind yelled at the butterflies. You cannot hide from me. I will blow all of you away from each other. Neeli, Jimmy and Lali were very scared. They were light and small. Of course, they will be flown away from each other. Therefore, when the boastful wind started to blow, they hold their wings and flew together, searching for a place to hide themselves. They rested on a branch of a big and shady Meranti tree. They saw a smal l birds hole in the tree trunk. They pleaded to the tree to let them stay in the hole until the wind passed. Oh, good Meranti, please let us take a shelter in your trunk until the wind passed. The Meranti tree was so kind and understanding. He let them stayed there as long as they wanted to. The boastful wind was so ashamed of himself when he knew that the Meranti tree had helped the three butterflies. They were safe and sound. After a few hours rested thee, they continued their journey flying together happily, exploring the wide world once more. So, my dear friends, isnt it really wonderful to have someone who really loves us as how Neeli, Jimmy and Lali did. Anyway, the moral of the story is loving, caring and togetherness are exactly the keys to a happy life. With that, I thank you...
