1d Motion Packet ALL

This document contains a packet of 14 problems related to 1D motion. The problems involve calculating distances, times, speeds, and accelerations given variables like initial velocity, time, acceleration, displacement, and change in speed. Graphic representations of position vs time and velocity vs time are also included, requiring analysis to determine values like speed and acceleration over specified time intervals.

1. Thunder is heard 10 seconds after seeing the lightning bolt. If the speed of sound is 340 m/s, how far away was the lightning? 2. A biker travels at an average speed of 11.1 m/s along a 8.9 x 103m straight segment of a bike path. How much time does the biker take to travel this segment? 3. Tiffany has 8 minutes to get to her Broadway show in her cab. Calculate the time it takes for each segment and see if she makes it. A. First, the cab travels 1000 m at a speed of 25 m/s. (convert your answer to minutes) A ________ minutes B. Next, The cab waits at a traffic light for 1.5 minutes. C. The cab travels 1700 m down the next street at 10.0 m/s in traffic. (convert) B ________ minutes C ________ minutes

D. How long does the total trip take? ______________. does she make it? _____________ 4. Grace is driving her sports car at 30 m/s when a ball rolls out into the street in front of her. Grace slams on the brakes and comes to a stop in 3.0s. What was the acceleration of Graces car. 5. A jumbo jet slows from 45.0 m/s to rest. What is the acceleration of the plane if it takes the pilot 5.00s to bring the plane to a halt? 6. Eddie is traveling at 20.0 m/s when he decides to hit the gas. If Eddie accelerates at 5.0 m/s2 how long will it take for him to reach a speed of 30.0 m/s?

7. A shopping cart is given an initial velocity of 2.0 m/s and undergoes a constant acceleration of 2.0 m/s2. What is the magnitude of the carts displacement after the first 6.0 s of its motion? (remember: magnitude means the question is asking you for the number and unit of the displacement not the direction)

8. A skater glides off a frozen pond into a patch of ground at a speed of 2.9 m/s. Here she is slowed at a constant rate of 3.00 m/s2. How fast is the skater moving when she has slid 0.38 m across the ground?

9. A sports car traveling at 24.7 m/s slows at a constant rate to a stop in 16.00 s. What is the displacement of the sports car in this time interval?

10. A race car accelerates from 0.0 m/s to 51.0 m/s with a displacement of 75.0 m. What is the cars acceleration? Pick variables from the graphs (be careful to check what type of graph you are looking at and its units)

(Figure 1) 1. (In figure 1) at t= 3s what is the speed of this object 2. (In figure 1) at t= 10s what is the speed of this object 3. (In figure 2) at t= 3s what is the speed of this object.

4. (In figure 3) Determine the distance traveled in the BC interval. 5. (In figure 3) What is the acceleration in the AB interval? 6. (In figure 4) Determine the distance traveled in the BC interval. 7. (In figure 4) What is the acceleration in the CD interval?
