FROM COUPERIN TO RAMEAU
Friday 6 - Sunday 8 June 2014 Tutor: Penelope Cave
This weekend course attempts to place Franois Couperin (1668-1733) and JeanPhilippe Rameau (1683-1764), perhaps the two best-known French composers for harpsichord, in context, giving an ideal opportunity to explore some of their pieces. Well address particular issues in the interpretation of French music - mannerisms, ornamentation, rhythmic inequality and an understanding of titles among them as well as looking generally at harpsichord technique in a friendly workshop situation. Please bring at least one of the preludes from LArt de Toucher le Clavecin and your own choice of prepared pieces by both (or other French) composers.

THE ART OF CHOPIN

Monday 19 - Wednesday 21 May 2014 Tutor: Timothy Barratt
Timothy Barratt focuses on the music of the great Polish-born composer in a course which should appeal to all pianists. Please prepare at least two works in advance. Whether its one of those frighteningly difficult Etudes or one of the simpler Preludes, Timothy will provide useful hints and plenty of gentle encouragement, as well as setting the work in revealing context and suggesting approaches to the skill of performing in front of an audience. Please note that this course concentrates on teaching students as a class.
