Traffic Light Control Using NFC

The document discusses using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for automatic traffic control. NFC allows short-range wireless communication when devices are a few centimeters apart. It can be used to transmit information between vehicles and traffic control units to manage traffic flow. The system uses NFC transceivers in vehicles and at traffic signals to wirelessly transmit vehicle details and control signal timing based on vehicle count. This allows the traffic to be intelligently managed in real-time based on current conditions.

Automatic traffic control using NFC

WHAT IS NFC??? NFC or Near Field Communication is a short range high frequency wireless communication technology. A radio communication is established by touching the two phones or keeping them in proximity of a few centimeters. NFC is mainly aimed for mobile or handheld devices.

NFC is an extension of Radio frequency identification or RFID technology. RFID is mainly used for tracking and identification by sending radio waves. In 2004, NFC Forum was formed by Nokia, Philips, and Sony, to set standards for NFC. Every NFC enabled device will have NMark trademark, developed by NFC Forum. Near field communication is based on inductive-coupling. NFC works using magnetic induction between two loop antennas located within each other's 'near field. NFC provides unique advantages over other available wireless technologies. The design includes a near-field transmitter and receiver to send data from one computer to another.

NFC uses an initiator and a target; the initiator actively generates an RF field that can power a passive target.

MODES OF OPERATION: In Active mode, both devices with NFC chip generate an electromagnetic field and exchange data.

In Passive mode, there is only one active device and the other uses that field to exchange information. Modulation/Demodulation Scheme: Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) VCO produces a frequency-modulated signal at the transmitter Phase lock loop demodulates the signal at the receiver. Tracks the frequency and phase of the input Frequency of an FSK signal changes according to the data bits; therefore, PLL can demodulate an FSK signal.

Abstract In every day there are millions of vehicles are passing on the roads due to urbanization. Transportation Department plays an important role in the features like Time, safety and efficiency but due to the lack of awareness Accidents occurs as usual and the consecutive things will be delayed then it gives the loose of the life also. Here the proposed paper describes the process for avoiding the above mentioned issues. It is ARM7 based system the core hardware has modules such as CC2500 RF Transceiver, GPS, GSM wireless transmission will try to compensate the new transport related issues. Applications such as accident alert, traffic rule violation control and special zone are explained in this paper. An efficient utilization of communication link between RF Modems over a wireless channel to provides the information regarding vehicle monitoring, vehicle authentication. The implemented system is a more convenient to automatically sending information to above such applications.

WORKING: We have used ARM7 as a base device. GPS, GSM module, MMA7660FC and CC2500 RF Transceivers is connected with SPI port of the controller. Whenever vehicle meets with an accident the MMA7660FC triggers the embedded module for rescue operation. Embedded module gets area information from GPS receiver module and the alert information is sent through the GSM module. GPS receiver gets area information on the road unit. This will as control accident ratio. In addition to embedded module one special RF transceiver is placed inside vehicle to transmit vehicle information. In the traffic signal management system RF transceiver reader and display informer unit are connected with serial port of the microcontroller. If vehicle insurance, pollution test, FC is not proper, the alert system will produce beep sound and vehicle number is displayed. Then the traffic police can easily alert the driver / owner. Traffic signal is managed by counting the number of vehicles crossing the reader area in a particular time interval. Here the data collected by the antennas are given to the reader via multiplexer switch. By this we can manage the traffic intelligently.
