NASA FA Mobility Final

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is researching new aircraft technologies to increase the capacity of the national airspace system and accommodate growing air traffic demands. This includes developing Cruise-Efficient Short TakeOff and Landing aircraft that can takeoff and land on shorter runways while maintaining high-speed cruise, as well as advanced tiltrotor aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing with improved performance. The research aims to advance powered-lift technologies for improved low-speed lift and high-speed efficiency. Computational modeling and wind tunnel testing is being used to develop active flow control concepts for increased lift during takeoff and landing. These new aircraft designs have the potential to significantly increase airport capacity and reduce congestion through operations from alternative
