Essential Guidelines
logic is like a sport: to get good at it, you need to practice
you practice by doing your homework
to know how to do your homework, you need coaching
for coaching, you come to class, pay attention, and ask questions
Advice
Some of you may find the first part of the course rather easy. Do not let this trick you into neglecting
your work, because later parts get more challenging.
Dont try to cheat on your homework. Not only is this wrong, but it will leave you unprepared for
your exams.
Homework is always due two classes later. Thus in the class in between you have the opportunity to
ask questions about the problems you dont know how to solve. Always ask these questions. This
will help you on the exams and it will even earn you some participation points.
Cell Phones, Tablet PCs, Laptops, and Similar Devices
Turn them off; when possible, leave them home.
If you use these devices in class, you will not be able to concentrate. Worse, you will distract and
annoy your classmates for none of their fault. And finally, you will lose participation points.
In an extraordinary situation when you genuinely need such a device, see me before class.

Disability Accommodations
If you believe that you need accommodations for a disability, please contact the Office of Disability
Services (ODS), http://disabilityservices.syr.edu, located at 804 University Avenue, room 309, or call 315443-4498 for an appointment to discuss your needs and the process for requesting accommodations. ODS
is responsible for coordinating disability-related accommodations and will issue students with documented
disabilities Accommodation Authorization Letters, as appropriate. Since accommodations may require
early planning and generally are not provided retroactively, please contact ODS as soon as possible.
Academic Integrity
Syracuse University policies mandate that the presumptive sanction for a first offense is course failure,
accompanied by the transcript notation Violation of the Academic Integrity Policy. Do not put yourself
in this situation:
do not cheat
do not help others cheat
do not look like youre cheating; during exams, sit away from your friends and talk to nobody
