Todesignastateofthearttransporthubwhichispassengerfriendlyand
convenient, desirousofgivingthepublicagoodtravellingexperience where
peoplecomingbydifferentmodeslikemonorail,buses,taxis,autorikshaws and
bicyclescanoptforasafeandsecurechangeofmodeorservice.Inaddition,the
hubshouldcatertotherequiredcapacityofdifferentmodesandincludefacilities
forshopping,eatinganddynamicopenspacesforrecreation,conductingand
displayofsmallpublicevents.

OBJECTIVES
1. Understandingtheexistingtransportationscenarioespeciallyincontextofintermodal
transportshift,inKozhikode
2. Deducingthevariousspacesthroughliveandliteraturecasestudies,assessingthetype,
relationanduseofvariouscomponentfacilitiesinamultimodalhubandhowitisrelatedto
thetrafficandtransportcontextoftheplace.
3. Facilitatingwayfindingthrougharchitectureratherthanonlysignagebyexploringwaysto
provideseamlessconnectionbetweentransportationmodes.
4. Makingthehubinviting,iconic,andaplacethatpeoplewanttovisitandthroughthe
provisionalfacility,bringingabehavioralchangeinthetransportusageofthepeople.

WAYFINDINGTHROUGHARCHITECTURE?
Unfortunatelymanyexistingtransportationinterchangesconsistsofillegiblespacethatrely
solelyonsignagefororientationratherthanarchitecture.
Newcomerscommonlyexperiencethestressandanxietyassociatedwithdisorientationin
buildings.
Aclearimageallowsonetonavigateanenvironmentquickerandwithgreatereaseof
movement.

RELEVANCE
Kozhikodecity,whichhasemergedasoneofthefastestgrowingurbancentres inthe
state,wouldneedanintegratedtransporthubtoreducethemountingtrafficcongestion.
TheRTOmadetheproposaltakingintoaccountthefuturetravelpatternsinthecityafter
thecommissioningoftheproposedmonorail.
Agreatboontothecity
Nowpeoplehavetospendconsiderabletimetoreachthedifferentbusstandsorfrom
therailwaystationtothebusstand,costingmuchtimeandmoney.

CHALLENGES..
Itinvolvesswitchingbetweendifferentnetworklevels,differentmodes,anddifferent
organizations.
Thecomplexityofallthetransportservicenetworksinvolved,especiallythephenomenaof
timetablesandtransfers.

SCOPEandLIMITATION.

Thescopeofthisthesisprojectisdesigningalivelyintegratedtransportnode(organizing
spaceformonorail,buses,autorikshaws,taxis andcycles)withspacesfortransport
terminals,streetplatforms,ticketcountersetc andproposingsomeretailandrecreational
facilitiesalongwithit.

Alltrafficsurveysthatcomesasapartoftheproblemwillnotbecovered.

Doesnotdealwithconstructionandstructuraldetails,mainlyconcentratesineffective
planninganddesignofspaces.

Securityrestrictionmayapplytocertainstudyareas.Photographsmaynotbepermittedat
certainfacilities.
