ABUS274 – eCommerce

Course Description:

Discovery and introduction to the wide variety of online tools available for building businesses.
Examination of internet marketing in light of developing trends, including the rapid expansion and use
of social networking, blogging and free, Open Source software. Review of plans and philosophies that
are successful in the current online business landscape.

Course Purpose:

We will endeavor to provide students with a general understanding of the opportunities currently
available for marketing a business online. Key elements of this understanding will include: 1.
Recognition of recent fundamental changes in online interaction and distribution 2. Recognition of
emerging principles governing successful online marketing 3. Recognition that free services and
software play an increasing role in online business. Students will discover services, develop marketing
plans, execute plans and measure preliminary results.

Grades Requirements:

90 – 100% A
80 – 89% B
70 – 79% C
60 – 69% D
below 59% F

Attendance and Participation 20%

 You are not likely to complete your project successfully without consistent attendance and
regular participation. Principles that guide each step will be detailed in lectures and
question/answer times in class.

Project Completion 40%

 There are six areas of emphasis within your course project: Discovery, Strategy, Energy,
Consistency, Flexibility and Measurability. Specific tasks will be attached to each principle.

Project Report 40%

 The outline of your experiences while completing each phase of the project will be an important
learning experience. Students will be asked to answer questions and make observations.
