Types of Quality Management Systems
To strengthen and communization of quality requirements ISO released its
quality management systems standard series ISO 9001 in 1987 with revisions
in 1994, 2000 and 2008. In 2015 the whole standard again going to revise
(draft standard already been released)

But with the increasing demands of automotive products and stringent quality
requirements by automobile users compelled US automotive industry to
develop more specific and enhanced quality standard QS 9000 which also
encouraged various other countries to develop their own standards for their
automotive industries such as:
For German automobile industry VDA
For Italian automobile industry AVSQ
For French automobile industry EAQF and were again superseded by ISO/TS
16949 globally.
Another quality management system for medical devices is developed by ISO
as ISO:13485 harmonized for directives such as 93/42/EEC, AIMD and IVD
directives as well.
