FLASH TUTORIAL 7
(Creating Fancy Text Effects)

Part 7a: Morphing Text

Launch "T7-morphing.swf " to have a preview of what can be accomplished from this
tutorial.

1.

In a movie, type the following text: Morphing Text

Press v and choose the correct font and size.

Now select Modify > Break Apart (or Ctrl+B) twice. This turns your text into
shapes. You cannot edit the words after you have broken them apart.

Add 5 frames (press F5). Point to the sixth frame and press F6 to create another
new keyframe.

Press F5 again to increase the second keyframe created in step 4 to 25th frame.
Point to the 26th frame and press F6 to create the third keyframe as shown below:

In the 26th frame, delete the text shapes Morphing Text and type the text
Different. This time, choose red color. Make sure that you have broken it apart
before continuing. The morphing will NOT work with unbroken text boxes.

Point to the 15th frame. Now open up the tweening option for that keyframe.

Play the movie (Ctrl + Enter).

It may not work the way you wanted. If not - try changing the Blend. Select either
Angular or Distributed in the tweening options box.

Part 7b: Creating a Fading Text Transition

Click T7b-sample.swf to see the sample of the animation you are going to do.
Create a new movie.
Click insert>new symbol, name it "text1" and select Movie clip behaviour.
Type the word Hello in this movie clip.

Click insert>new symbol, name it text2 and select Movie Clip behaviour.
Type the word How are you? in this movie clip.

Return to main stage, drag movie clip "text1" from your library and position it on
your stage in frame 1 layer1.
Highlight frame 25, right click and select INSERT KEYFRAME.
Click and highlight the text1 movie clip and open the property panels.
Set the Colour Effects to alpha and set Select alpha to 0%.

Highlight layer 1 frame 1 and on the FRAME panel, select tweening: motion.
Lock Layer 1.

Right click on layer 1 and select INSERT LAYER.


Highlight Layer 2 Frame 15, Right Click and select insert keyframe.
Highlight layer2, frame 15 and drag movie clip Text2 from your library and
position it overtop of text 1.
Click on Frame 40 of layer two, right click and select INSERT KEYFRAME.
Click on Layer 2 Frame 15 and similarly, set alpha = 0
Open the FRAME control panel and set the tweening to motion.
Lock layer 2.
Now press (Ctrl+Enter) to view your text animation.

Part 7c: Creating an Animated Text


* Click T7c-sample.swf to see the sample of the animation you are going to do.

Create a new movie (from pull down menu Modify>Documents) and set it to
550 x 400 pixels.

Set the Background to Black.


Take your Text tool (or press T) in the tool bar, set at Times Roman, size 45,
colour Dark Royal blue. Type on the stage "Designing Webs".

With your select tool (press v), select the text.


Center the text on the stage.
Click Modify>Break Apart TWICE

Select the Ink Bottle tool in the tool bar


In the property panel, choose colour to a light Bright Blue, size of 2, solid line.

Click the Ink Bottle on the outline of all the letter one by one.
With your Select tool (press v), drag a box around the text to highlight it.
Click Modify>Group (or Ctrl +G) to group the text.
Click Insert>Convert to Symbol and select graphic.
Click Edit > Copy
Click Insert> Layer to create a new layer (This will be Layer 2)
Click in Layer 2 Frame 1
Click Edit> Paste in Place
Right click in Layer 1 frame 10 and click add Key Frame.
Left click in Layer1 frame 1
In the Properties box select Motion Tween.
Left click in layer 1 frame 10
Click Windows> Transform change width and height percentages to 200%
In the properties box change the Colour Alpha to 0
Click in Layer 2 Frame 1
Right click in Layer 2 frame 10 and click add Key Frame.
Left click in Layer 2 frame 1
In the Properties box, select Motion Tween.
Left click in layer 1 frame 10
Click Windows> Transform change width and height percentages to 50%
In the properties box change the Colour Alpha to 50%

Now press (Ctrl+Enter) to view your text animation.

Part 7d: Create Movies inside Text

To see the demo file, open T7-inside-movie.swf.

1.

Open the file T7-inside-movie-test.fla.

2.

Create a new layer named masking. It should be above your movie layers.

3.

Use the Text tool (or press t) to type the text Ready in the masking layer .
Make it big.

4.

Point to the area near masking layer, right click, a menu will be popped up.
Choose Mask from the menu. The movie now appears inside the letters.

5.

Play the movie (Ctrl + Enter).

6.

Now press (Ctrl+Enter) to view your animation.
