Thermal Design Calculation Procedure (Rev 00)

This document provides design specifications for a heat exchanger with the following key details: - It uses exhaust gas and water as the hot and cold fluids respectively to provide cooling for a CCHP (combined cooling, heating and power) unit. - The hot side inlet gas temperature is 450°C and cold side inlet water is 180°C with outlet temperatures of 140°C and 120°C respectively. - The proposed design has a shell diameter of 609.6mm, 2000mm long tubes, 11 baffles with 2 tube passes and 446 tubes. - An optimization analysis found this design meets the heat transfer and pressure drop requirements with a total cost of $27,690.

Warnings and Messages

Description
Note 23

Cold side flowrate has been set at 8.5747 kg/s to balance heat loads.

Note 588

A TEMA E shell with an odd number of horizontal cut single segmental baffles implies that the
inlet and outlet nozzles should both be on the same side of the exchanger (top or bottom).

Warning 47

The databank has been referenced for HOT Side fluid physical properties. The temperature
range for which properties were stored in the databank has been exceeded by one or more of
the components. ALL properties for that component will be taken at the limit of the range except
for vapor pressure and viscosity which will be extrapolated.
