Dosing Solution Calculation

The document provides instructions for preparing solutions of ferric chloride, lime, and polymer to use in water treatment. It specifies that 100 liters of a 1% ferric chloride solution can be made by diluting 1.49 liters of a 45% standard solution. 100 liters of a 7% lime solution requires diluting 7.60 kg of a 92% standard hydrated lime powder. And 100 liters of a 0.2% polymer solution is made by diluting 0.200 kg of a 100% standard polymer powder. Jar test calculations determined the lime dosage needed is 3150 mg/l. Based on the flow rate and lime dosage, the required dosing pump size is 5625 liters

Ferric chloride solution preparation

Available standard FeCl3 solution concentration in market

= 45%

Specify gravity

= 1.49

Prepare 100 liters of a 1% solution

C1V1= C2V2
45% * ? lit = 1% * 100
V1= 0.01*100/ 0.45 *1.49
V1= 1.49 liters of ferric chloride liquid diluted to 100 liters of water

Lime solution preparation

Available standard hydrated lime powder concentration in market = 92%
Prepare 100 liters of a 7% solution
C1V1= C2V2
92% * ? lit = 7% * 100
V1= 0.07*100/ 0.92
V1= 7.60 kg of lime powder diluted to 100 liters of water

Polymer solution preparation

Available standard polymer powder concentration in market

= 100 %

Prepare 100 liters of a 0.2% solution

C1V1= C2V2
100% * ? lit = 0.2% * 100
V1= 0.002*100/ 1
V1= 0.200 kg of polymer powder diluted to 100 liters of water

Jar test calculation

45 ml of Lime solution (7%) consumed for to develop the floc in 1000 ml wastewater.
7% * 45 ml = ? mg/l * 1000 ml
? = (0.07 *1000000)*45/1000
? mg/l= 3150 mg/l

% to mg/l conversion= 1000000

Dosing pump size calculation

Flow rate

= 125 m3/hr

Lime to be dosed as per jar test

= 3150 mg/l

125000 l/hr * 3150 mg/l = (0.07*1000000) mg/l * ? l/hr

? l/hr = 5625 lit/hr
