Remembrance Day Assemblies


The Grade 8 Woodwind Ensemble performed at the WHMS Remembrance Day Assemblies on
Friday, and did a fantastic job! We can all be proud of their musicality and the progress they have
already made.
Fundraisers
A big thank you to students, parents, and guardians for the time and energy put into our craft fair
and pie fundraiser. These funds are so important to our program! An extra big thanks goes out to
Laura Maddox and our BPA executive. Please note that the date for pie pickup has been changed to
next Tuesday, December 6th from 6:30 to 8:00pm in the AVHS band room.
Instrument Purchases
We are in the midst of purchasing a large number of instruments for our program. If you or
someone you know has a good used instrument they would be willing to donate or sell, please get
in touch.
Practice
All grades 7 and 8 students need to be practicing regularly in order to meet performance and
curricular goals. Practice is homework! The best routine is at least 15 minutes of producing sound
every day, or approximately four 30-45 minute practice sessions every week. See

should be practicing.
Double Bass
If your child is playing bass, please be sure to review the updated instrument maintenance
guidelines at mrreidsite.weebly.com and get in touch if you have any questions. The winter season
can be very hard on our basses!
Christmas Angels
On Sunday December 4th the Jazz Band and Concert Band will be performing at the annual
Christmas Angels Fundraiser. In addition to the usual live broadcast on Eastlink, this years event is
also being broadcast on radio via KRock. The Jazz Band is scheduled to perform at 3:35pm, the
Concert Band is scheduled to perform at 4:00pm. All Jazz and Concert Band members are asked to
be at the Windsor Community Hall by 2:30pm.
Holiday Concert
The Holiday Concert is coming up on Tuesday December 13th at 7:00pm in the small gym. If the
concert is cancelled due to weather it will be held the following day. Concert Band Members, Jazz
Band Members, Grade 7 students, and Grade 8 students are to arrive no later than 6:00 to set up,

warm up, and rehearse. Grade 6 students should arrive no later than 6:30 to warm up and rehearse
for the finale with the bands.
Concert band members will wear their black uniforms. Grade 7 and 8 band members will wear
their black band shirt with black pants/skirt and black footwear. Note that these shirts will be
distributed the week before the concert. Grade 6 students are asked to wear their blue WHMS
SABRES t-shirt and dark pants.
All band students are expected to be in attendance at the concert. If there is an unavoidable
conflict and your child cannot make it, please let me know well in in advance so that appropriate
plans can be made. Be sure to make it out for this fun first performance by our bands and grade 6
students!
Grade 6 Holiday Choir
As we prepare for the holiday concert it is important that we know how many of our 156 grade 6
students to expect. Participation in this concert is not required for grade sixes, but it is encouraged.
If your child will be taking part, please complete the form at the bottom of this page and have it
brought in to me on or before Thursday December 1st.
