To create text documents with different styles and colours of the text OpenOffice

Writer are used.


A word processor is a program which processes words.
Selecting a text means highlighting the text which has to be edited.
There are three font styles options available which are Bold, Italic and Underline.
Bold option makes the text darker/thicker than the normal text.
Italic option tilts the text towards right.
Underline option underlines the selected text.
The formatting toolbar is gives the user the ability to change the formatting of selected
text.
Formatting text means changing the appearance of the text.
Undo is a command erases the last change done to the document
The opposite of undo is redo.
a)Ctrl + C command copies the selected text.
b) Ctrl + V is a shortcut key for paste option.
c) Undo option cancels the last action performed.

d) The colour of the text can be changed using font color option.
Write the steps to:
a. Close a file
i. Step 1 : Click on the File Menu
ii. Step 2: Click on the close option
b. Change the font size to 24
i. Step 1: select the text
ii. Step 2: click on Font size option and choose the required font size
c. Make the text bold
i. Step 1: select the text
ii. Step 2: click on B on the tool bar or Press Ctrl + B
d.Creating a New Document
i. Step 1: Click on File Menu.
ii.Step 2: Click on New option.
iii.Step 3: Click on Select Text Document.

To select text
i.Step 1: Place your mouse pointer where the text starts from.
ii.Step 2: Drag the mouse pointer over the text upto the text you want to
select.
To select a text using the keyboard, you can use the Shift key along with the Arrow
keys.
Cut command removes the selected portion of the text.
Copy command makes a copy of the selected text.
Paste command is used to insert the cut or copied text anywhere in the document
area.
The Cut/Copied text gets pasted at the cursor point.

Font Name to change the font type


Font Size to increase or decrease the size of your text
The Font color makes your text colourful. To change the text colour
To save a file
Step 1: Click on File Menu.
Step 2: Click on Save option.
A dialog box appears, type the name of the file.
Step 3: Click on Save button.
Save option from Toolbar Menu.
To open a file
Step 1: Click on File Menu.
Step 2: Click on Open option.
Step 3: Select the file to be opened.
Step 4: Click on Open button.
File extension of OpenOffice Writer document is .odt
To close a file
Step 1: Click on the File Menu.
Step 2: Click on the Close option.
On the Toolbar you can find four buttons namely, Centered, Align Left, Align Right
and Justified for alignment of text.

Justify Alignment
A block of the text is aligned on both the left and right margins of the page by
adding some extra space between words.
Using the Find option, a particular word or sentence can be easily searched
To find a word
Step 1: Click on Find & Replace option.
A Find and Replace window appears.
Step 2: In the Search for box, type the word you want to search and click on
Find button. Your cursor will reach automatically
Using the Replace option, you can replace the word found with another word.
When we want to type text in the points, we use Bullets and Numbering.
To use bullets and numbering
Step 1: Select the text to which bullets and numbering has to be
applied.
Step 2: Click on Bullets or Numbering list button.
