Zonnerv Maya
The time period of the Mayan civilization was 1000 BC-AD 1542. The Maya were people
of Mexico and Central America who inhabited these lands for many years. Mayans lived in
places such as Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, and many other regions. The mayan
ruler was Kinich Yax Kuk Mo. The rulers were kings and they were chosen by keeping a family
line in power and would occasionally allow woman to be rulers. The civilization was made up of
loose collections of city-states. Mayans believed in several gods such as Chac, Bolon Tzacab,
and
Itzamna. They believed in 165 different gods and were known as catholic. The worship-place
was pyramids and temples.
The languages of the mayans were called Tzeltal and Yucatec. Yucatec was what the
western mayans spoke. Tzeltal was the language was what the rest of the civilization spoke.
Also, the Maya built temples, pyramids, residences, walls, palaces, and more. The Maya also
had their own calender. The Mayan calender consisted of counts of different lengths and of
several cycles. There was 260 days on the calender which was called the scholars.
The jobs of the Maya were given based on what class you were in such as the lower
class people and the higher class people. The hardest jobs were given to the lower class
citizens. They were known as the farmers and laborers. The class system was what the Mayans
lived by. The highest possible job for the higher class was to work as part of the monarchy. The
monarchy is known as the ruling class. The ruling class consists of priests, architects, artists,
educated nobleman, and other positions that were important for keeping the civilization
nonchaotic. Also, things such as honey, salt, tools, and more were traded due to the lack of
wheeled cars and things to transport objects easier. These items were traded all of the place,
across the sea, nearby places, and all throughout the country.
The Maya divided their people into social classes such as the wealthy and the poor. The
people were also divided by middle and late facets. There were also slaves who were mostly
the people who were accused of crimes and lies. The lower class citizens had to constantly
work and had barely anything to live on. The higher classes such as nobles had a lot of free
time and luxury. In other words, the poor had a lot of struggles and the wealthy had no trouble at
all. The only way someone could rise from the lower class is if they were educated or were a
family member of the ruling king.
The Mayan civilization was very large and developed many useful things. The entire
civilization was based on the peoples beliefs and the social classes people were in. It was hard
living in the Maya but the wealthy class seen it as paradise.
